Tata & Chery Working on New Premium SUV; To Rival Hyundai Creta

The possible collaboration between Tata Motors and Chery Automobile Co. (China) will bring an all-new premium SUV in India that will compete in the market with the much appreciated Hyundai Creta. The new SUV from the collaboration between the two firms is expected to reach the markets in 2021. The introduction of the new SUV from the partnership will allow Tata to fill in the gap between its portfolio. The Creta rival will line up in between the 4-metre long Tata Nexon and the 4.5 metres long Tata Harrier while the tie-up may also be fruitful for Chery to enter the Indian market in a breeze, something they are planning to do from past few years. Both the brands are using “Blackbird” as an internal name for their collaborated SUV that will be one of the best offerings in the mid-size SUV segment. The generation of the all-new platform to accommodate the mid-size SUV would require a larger budget which cannot be afforded. Hence, Tata motors planned on initiating a collaboration with China’s Chery Automobile. Chery’s wide range of products like Tiggo 2 and Tiggo 5 uses the same platform required to build the “Blackbird”. According to the reports, both Tata and Chery will be creating their own premium lineup from the same shared platform, based on the same underpinnings such as chassis, suspension, power coefficients and more. The collaboration could mean substantial cost savings for both brands. The trend of partnerships for sharing resources and avoiding huge investments costs is seeing success for a long time now and we highly anticipate the same for Tata Motors and Chery.
