Suzuki Unveils New Swift Concept: A Sneak Peek at Maruti Swift 4th Gen

  • The 2023 Suzuki Swift concept will be unveiled between October 26 and November 5 at the Japan Mobility event.
  • Has a more evolutionary design; and retains typical Swift-like traits including a floating roof.
  • There is a 9-inch touchscreen and push-button start/stop in the cabin, which is in line with more recent Maruti Suzuki cars.
  • Could be powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine, and might get mild-hybrid assistance.
  • India launch is expected by early 2024 at a premium over the existing model.

Suzuki is set to reveal the fourth-generation Swift in concept form soon after we saw the first spy images of it more than a year ago. However, it has previously leaked online in the form of a series of photographs. The new Swift will be on display during the Japan Mobility Show, which runs from October 26 to November 5.

What’s Changed?

Suzuki has only revealed the concept version of the Swift, but it looks close to production. At first glance, its design seems more of an evolution than a revolution, as it has many similarities with the previous-gen model. Its overall silhouette and proportions are still pretty much like the current version, save for the muscular panels and window line.

New bits include sharper LED headlights and LED DRLs and a small oval-ish grille with a honeycomb pattern. In profile, the hatchback now sports a more traditional set of door handles while continuing with a ‘floating roof’ effect. Its rear gets a redesigned tailgate, bumper, and tail lights, which have inverted C-shaped lighting elements and black inserts.

Cabin Gets Atered Too

Cabin

The new Swift’s cabin resembles that of newer models like the Maruti Fronx and Maruti Grand Vitara in the carmaker’s (Maruti Suzuki) Indian lineup, of course with minor differences in dashboard design. While the new Swift concept’s cabin gets a touch of black, gloss black, and white, the India-spec model might get a different color theme altogether.

While not all features have been revealed of the new Swift, the cabin’s image does show a free-floating 9-inch touchscreen taking center stage. You can also notice a twin-pod analog instrument cluster, while the new Swift should continue with push-button start/stop, cruise control, and auto climate control.

The new Swift will likely get multiple airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), a hill-hold assist, and a reversing camera. That said, the carmaker has announced that the hatchback will be equipped with some advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as high-beam assist and autonomous emergency braking (AEB).

What Will Power It?

The fourth-generation Swift will use the same 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine (90PS/113Nm) with some type of electrification, most likely a mild-hybrid configuration. It will most likely be available with either a normal 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission. Later, an optional CNG kit should be available.

Expected Price and Time

We predict Maruti Suzuki will introduce the new Swift in India in early 2024, with the production-ready version expected to be released soon. It is expected to be more expensive than the existing model (Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 9.03 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi). The Maruti hatchback will continue to compete with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, as well as the comparably priced Renault Triber crossover MPV.
