India-Bound Skoda Kamiq Compact SUV Revealed

Skoda Kamiq has been officially revealed by the brand. The car is not to be confused with the China-spec Kamiq as that one will stay exclusive to the Chinese market. The international-spec Kamiq comes with a different architecture, a compact footprint and a different set of engines on offer. The model will arrive in India in 2020 and expecting the same to carry similar dimensions is possible due to Creta-rivalling stance. Skoda Kamiq measures 4241mm in length and carries 2651mm of healthy wheelbase. The availability of a bigger wheelbase than Octavia and Karoq confirms that price placement will fall in the Jeep Compass-rivalling segment for sure. The Kamiq comes with optional LED daytime running lights that double as dynamic indicators on the road. The design lines are matching to the Skoda SUV family while features like 400-litre boot space and extended legroom make Kamiq a compact yet practical option. The engine options include 1.0L petrol (95 HP and 115 HP), 1.5L petrol (150 HP) and 1.6L diesel (115 HP). For India, the engine selection will depend on the placement of the car as putting 1.5L diesel will place the same against Hyundai Creta while the 2.0L engine will increase the overall cost and target the Jeep Compass buyers. Skoda is presently selling Rapid, Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq in the country. The design lines and front fascia of all these cars feel similar and surprisingly, Skoda Rapid has regained the pace by posting decent sales number almost every month. Superb is a full-length sedan that challenges cars priced double its own tag. After Kodiaq, bringing more SUVs to India will affect the brand value of Skoda and attract more buyers than ever. Kamiq is actually a Hyundai Creta rival while the Karoq will target bigger cars like Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson. Skoda Octavia is a potential rival to the upcoming Honda Civic.
