Renault's Big Plan: 8 New Car Models by 2027

As part of a significant worldwide push, Renault has revealed an ambitious ambition to introduce eight new automobile models by 2027. The company is set to invest a substantial €3 billion (equivalent to about Rs. 26,398 crore) to make this happen. Their primary objective is to double their revenue per car sold outside of Europe by 2027, compared to what they earned in 2019. Renault is developing two new vehicle platform types in order to carry out this ambition.

Flexible Modular Platform for Diverse Markets

The first platform is a versatile, modular design capable of accommodating various types of engines and power sources. Its main deployment regions include India, North Africa, Turkey, and Latin America, This platform will be flexible and adaptable to various power alternatives and geographies.

High-End Cars Get Their Own Platform

Renault is also introducing the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, designed for more premium cars. To create cars on this platform, they are working with Geely, a well-known Chinese automaker. The CMA platform will be employed for high-end models in the D and E segments.

Meet the Kardian: Renault's First Offering

The Kardian, a compact SUV, is the initial product of this ambitious plan. It's scheduled to hit the markets in Latin America and Morocco next year, with an eventual release in India. Renault is currently investigating hybrid powertrains and electric versions as part of their commitment to lowering CO2 emissions. Already, they have introduced the Megane E-Tech electric car in Brazil and Turkey. The company aims for one out of every three cars sold outside Europe to be electric or hybrid by 2027.

A Versatile Small Platform for Multiple Locations

The smaller Renault Group modular platform will be deployed in Latin America, Turkey, Morocco, and India. Renault is currently investigating hybrid powertrains in addition to electric versions as part of their commitment to lowering CO2 emissions. This platform is designed to support different types of engines, including ICE, flex-fuel (E100), LPG, mild-hybrid advanced (48V), and full hybrid, for both front-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles. It also provides the flexibility to create various body styles and one example of a car built on this platform is the Kardian, a B-segment compact SUV.

High-End Segment Focus in South Korea

Renault is dedicating the CMA platform to producing high-end cars specifically for the South Korean market. These cars will primarily use strong hybrid powertrains and will be designed in Seoul, with production taking place in Busan. The first vehicle developed on this platform by Renault Korea Motors is still under wraps.

A Glimpse into the Future: The Niagara Concept

A sneak peek at the future design direction of Renault's cars based on the new modular platform developed by the Renault Group can be found in the Niagara Concept. It has eye-catching curves, a modern grille, and an unusual headlight design. With its outstanding front and rear breakover angles, long-travel suspension, and high ground clearance, the Niagara Concept is an off-road vehicle made for adventure. It incorporates a hybrid powertrain called E-Tech Hybrid 4WD, which combines a mild hybrid (48V) powerplant at the front with an additional electric motor at the rear. This setup allows the vehicle to operate in full-electric mode for a significant portion of everyday drives, resulting in reduced CO2 emissions. The Niagara Concept provides a glimpse into Renault's upcoming international models set to launch by 2027.
