Next-Gen Maruti Gypsy to be Based on New Suzuki Jimny

According to Japan’s flagship publication Nikkei, India is all set to welcome the next-gen Maruti Gypsy, which will be based on the Suzuki Jimny SUV. The reports suggest that the fourth-gen Suzuki Jimny will indeed be made available to the Indian market though, in the form of the new Gypsy. When launched in India, the new model of the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy will directly compete with the likes of the 2020 Mahindra Thar and the next-gen Force Gurkha. The Suzuki Jimny model available in the international markets is powered by the K15B 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine capable of generating a maximum power of 101 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission while the optional 4-speed automatic gearbox is also available. The compact SUV will get the standard safety kit while the top-spec variants will additionally get Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS), Lane Departure Warning, (LDW), Hill Hold Control (HHC) and more. The next-gen Maruti Gypsy is expected to get similar ground clearance of 210mm and 2,250mm of wheelbase when compared to the Suzuki Jimny.
