New Yamaha RX100 To Get A Bigger Engine - RX200 Coming?

Yamaha RX100 is one of the bikes that captivated the Indian market like no other. It was considered the people’s champion in terms of two-stroke engines. It was such an icon that Yamaha provided spare parts for the bike even after discontinuation. Nostalgia and the craze for its performance in the 100cc segment have kept it alive.

Reigniting the flame Yamaha India's chairperson Eishin Chihana revealed a comeback for the RX100. He stated that the RX100 name was kept and had not been used on any other motorcycle. This was done on purpose, as the company intends to restore this icon to its former glory.

Because of the BS-VI phase 2 emission norms, the OG RX100 2-stroke won’t be coming back. And if you believe the chairperson then they are not just going to name any bike the RX100. But they are taking their time to cook the best bike that can live up to the name of the RX100.

Another report suggests Yamaha is considering a larger engine for the revival of the RX100. Recreating the original RX100 would be very difficult without breaking the bank. And even with all the positive sentiment that the Chairperson has for this icon, it is very unlikely that he would go through all this trouble just to get the same bike in the market. He also mentioned that a larger displacement bike would make an original impact while carrying the performance image of the old RX100.

It is unknown at the moment which engine will replace the 100cc engine in the upcoming RX100. Yamaha currently has 125cc engines in their scooters and they might take the same route as TVS. Other considerations are 150cc engines that are accompanied by a hefty tech setup.

Also, there are 200cc engines that are not that tech-savvy. According to us, it would be the best bet for Yamaha to launch the new model of RX with a 200cc engine and name it RX200.

Any of these engines might be a good choice but there is speculation that Yamaha might target the Royal Enfield with the RX moniker. Considering all the nostalgia and the iconic success of the OG RX100. Whatever Yamaha is cooking people are definitely excited about it. If all things go as planned this RX100 revival might make it by 2026.
