Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the comprehensive details and specifications for the sixth-generation long-wheelbase E-Class sedan, codenamed V214. This new E-Class LWB is set to hit the Chinese market in the coming months, and Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed its arrival in the Indian market during the second half of the next year.
Exciting Features and Tech Upgrades for the New Mercedes E-Class LWB
The upcoming long-wheelbase version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class known as the E-Class LWB is expected to bring additional features and advanced technology to the table. Much like the current-generation E-Class, India will also embrace the LWB body style, which will closely resemble the version recently unveiled in China. Notably, India stands out as the exclusive market where the E-Class is offered in this specific configuration, featuring a right-hand-drive, long-wheelbase setup. While China and a few other markets also receive the long-wheelbase variant, they feature a left-hand-drive layout. It's worth mentioning that the LWB E-Class doesn't include any performance-oriented versions but does offer sporty AMG-line iterations.
A Longer and More Spacious E-Class LWB
The new E-Class LWB boasts a longer wheelbase compared to the version currently available in India. In terms of dimensions, it measures 5,092mm in length, 1,880mm in width, and 1,493mm in height, and features a substantial 3,094 mm-long wheelbase. The standard E-Class was initially unveiled in a standard wheelbase body style earlier in the year. The long-wheelbase version was previously spotted through leaked images in China a few months ago. Visually, the production E-Class LWB closely resembles the regular sedan. However, there are some distinctions, such as the longer rear door, and the positioning of the rear quarter glass behind the rear door as opposed to its integration into the rear door with the rear window.
Luxurious Interior and Innovative Superscreen
The interior configuration mirrors that of the standard E-Class and is shared with the LWB version. The model showcased in China offers multiple variants with varying feature lists, including power-reclining rear seats with an ottoman function. Some variants also come equipped with the impressive "Superscreen" as standard. Mercedes-Benz India is contemplating offering this feature in the Indian market, given the high percentage of E-Class buyers who have chauffeurs.
The Mercedes Supercreen setup is a prominent feature, featuring three integrated screens positioned beneath a single glass panel on the dashboard. The setup includes a 12.2-inch screen facing the driver for instrumentation, a 14.4-inch screen in the center serving as the main infotainment unit, and a third screen facing the front passenger.
Powertrain Options for Different Markets
Regarding the powertrain, the Chinese market will offer a range of six-cylinder petrol engines, but it's uncertain whether this lineup will be extended to India. For the Indian market, expectations point to the continuation of the existing petrol and diesel engines for the next-generation E-Class, albeit with some updates.
