Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Electric: Exceeding 1000hp Power

Mercedes-AMG is preparing to launch its first performance electric vehicle, the AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV, in 2025. This much-anticipated model is set to be an electric counterpart of the Mercedes-AMG GT S E Performance, boasting an expected output that could make it the most powerful AMG model to date. Additionally, it will be the pioneering vehicle to be built on the AMG.EA electric car platform, a newly developed architecture specifically designed for electric vehicles by AMG.

Key Features

  • Preservation of the low-slung silhouette characteristic of ICE-powered AMGs.
  • Foundation on the new, electric-only AMG.EA architecture.
  • Anticipated to deliver over 1,000 horsepower and 1,300 Nm of torque.

Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV Platform

AMG has a history of modifying the Mercedes EQE and EQS to create 53-badged sports saloons with impressive power outputs. However, the upcoming AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV is being designed from scratch as a performance car, with a strong emphasis on dynamic performance and driving engagement, in addition to straight-line speed.

It will be the first vehicle to utilize the AMG.EA architecture, a bespoke performance-oriented EV platform. This architecture is engineered to support the sleek, low-slung profiles that are a hallmark of AMG's combustion-engine sports cars ensuring that the electric variant maintains the brand's distinctive aesthetic.

Mercedes-AMG GT EV Powertrain and Specifications

The vehicle will incorporate advanced electric motor technology from the British company Yasa, which Mercedes acquired in 2021. It is anticipated that Yasa's axial-flux motors will provide more torque density and power than conventional radial-flux motors making them lighter, more portable, and more effective. Although specifics are still unknown, the axial motors might greatly improve the car's performance, possibly approaching 1,000 horsepower and 1,300 Nm of torque.

Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV Exterior and Interior

Spy shots suggest that the upcoming EV will retain the iconic low-slung silhouette of its ICE-powered counterparts. The vehicle is likely to draw design inspiration from the motorsport-themed Vision 2025 concept showcased at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Expected features include an illuminated grille, updated headlamps, a new star design on the bonnet, a retractable spoiler, flush door handles, and a split rear window.

The interior will embrace a bold design centered around a full-width high-definition screen, following the trend set by recent Mercedes-Benz models. The 2025 saloon will be a four-seater, with larger successors possibly accommodating a third seat in the rear.

Competition

Upon its release, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV will compete with renowned EV sports saloons like the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, and Lucid Air.
