While the auto industry moves toward an electric powertrain-dominated future automakers are also looking at more affordable, environmentally friendly, and alternative fuel options. One notable example gaining traction is compressed biogas (CBG) which has demonstrated significant potential in recent years. Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker, has taken a proactive step in this direction by unveiling its first CBG car at the Bharat Mobility Expo.

Performance of Maruti Brezza CBG

The Maruti Brezza CBG retains the same engine as its conventional counterparts, featuring the advanced K-series dual jet, dual VVT petrol engine. When running on petrol this engine delivers an impressive 103.1 PS of maximum power and 136.8 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include both 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Transitioning to CNG, the engine's output slightly reduces to 87.8 PS and 121.5 Nm, and CNG variants are available solely with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Brezza CBG boasts a mileage rating of 25.51 km/kg.

With CBG, the performance figures are expected to remain largely consistent with those of CNG. This is because the calorific value and other chemical properties of CBG closely resemble those of CNG, with methane content exceeding 90%. With these qualities, CBG shows itself to be a competitive green fuel substitute for traditional gasoline and diesel. The Brezza CBG is expected to offer performance levels similar to its CNG counterpart. Currently, the Brezza is offered with CNG options across LXi, VXi, and ZXi trims, and these variants are likely to be supplemented with CBG options.

Conclusion

With the release of the Brezza CBG Maruti Suzuki has demonstrated that the automobile industry is beginning to embrace alternative fuels. With the help of CBG, Maruti hopes to offer mobility options that are kind to the environment without sacrificing functionality. Programs like the Brezza CBG which are developed by the automotive industry, attest to their ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation.
