Mahindra Thar Waiting Period Slightly Reduced in April 2024

Mahindra is actively addressing the significant backlog of orders for its popular models like the Scorpio N, XUV700, and Thar by ramping up production and increasing monthly deliveries. This strategy has notably decreased the waiting period for the Thar 4x4 variants, though the 4x2 variants still face considerable delays.

Mahindra Thar 4x4: Reduced Waiting Times

The waiting period for the 4x4 variants of the Thar has been reduced to between 6 weeks and 2 months across all configurations, including petrol and diesel engines as well as hardtop and soft-top options. This marks an improvement from the 3-month waiting period noted in February 2024.

The 4x4 versions offer a choice between a 152hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 132hp, 2.2-litre diesel engine, both available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. These models are equipped with manual-shift 4x4 transfer cases, and some variants include a manual-locking differential. The pricing for the Thar 4x4 ranges from Rs 14.30 lakh to Rs 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Mahindra Thar 4x2: Extended Wait

For those opting for the diesel 4x2 variants of the Thar, the waiting period can extend up to 9-10 months for its two trims. The petrol 4x2 variants have a shorter waiting period of up to 4 months, showing a reduction of about a month since February 2024. Only the hardtop version of the Thar 4x2 is offered.

The Thar 4x2 is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 118hp and 300Nm of torque, paired only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine from the 4x4 variants is also available but only comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission in the 4x2 setup.

The Thar 4x2 is priced between Rs 11.25 lakh and Rs 14 lakh, which is significantly lower than the 4x4 versions due to its classification in the lower tax bracket for sub-4-meter vehicles, contributing to its higher demand.
