Lotus Makes Its India Debut With The Eletre Electric SUV

Introduction

Lotus, the iconic British automaker, has officially entered the Indian automotive market by introducing the Lotus Eletre electric SUV. For the brand, this is a big step forward as it increases its global reach. The Eletre is available in three different variants, with prices starting at Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom, pan India). Lotus chose New Delhi as the location for its inaugural Indian showroom.

Aggressive Looks

The Lotus Eletre electric SUV is a head-turner with its bold and aggressive design. The front of the vehicle is adorned with distinctive L-shaped matrix LED headlights, an active grille, and a prominent air dam. Its sides feature stylish 22-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, though optional 20-inch and 23-inch alloy wheels are also available. The overall profile of the Eletre shares similarities with other high-performance SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus and Ferrari Purosangue. At the rear, the sloping roofline gracefully transitions into a tailgate, complemented by a substantial active rear spoiler. Connected LED taillamps and a striking blacked-out rear bumper enhance the SUV's aesthetic appeal.

Sporty, Plush Interiors

Inside the Lotus Eletre, you'll find a luxurious all-black interior theme with black seat upholstery. The enormous 15.1-inch floating infotainment display in the cabin, which manages many of the car's functions, is its most notable feature. Additionally, there are slim displays for the driver and co-driver integrated into the dashboard. Rear passengers can also enjoy a separate infotainment display. The Eletre boasts a high-quality sound system, with a standard 15-speaker KEF setup producing 1,380 watts of output. The top-spec version takes it a step further with a 2,160-watt, 23-speaker system that offers immersive 3D surround sound. The Eletre is also equipped with Lidar sensors and autonomous driving technology. Lotus offers two advanced driver assistance system packs, the parking pack and highway assist pack. The Eletre R, the highest-end version, includes a Lotus Dynamic Handling pack, a carbon fiber pack, gloss black wheels wrapped in high-performance tires, and stainless steel pedals.

Powertrain Options

The Lotus Eletre electric SUV offers three powertrain options, each of which utilizes a substantial 112 kWh battery pack. Here are the details of the powertrains:

  • Lotus Eletre: 611 PS power, 710 Nm torque, 112 kWh battery, WLTP-claimed range of 600 km, 0-100 kmph in 4.5 seconds, and a top speed of 258 kmph.
  • Lotus Eletre S: 611 PS power, 710 Nm torque, 112 kWh battery, WLTP-claimed range of 600 km, 0-100 kmph in 4.5 seconds, and a top speed of 258 kmph.
  • Lotus Eletre R: 918 PS power, 985 Nm torque, 112 kWh battery, WLTP-claimed range of 490 km, 0-100 kmph in just 2.95 seconds, and a top speed of 265 kmph.

Rivals and Future Plans

In the Indian market, the Lotus Eletre Electric SUV can be considered a premium alternative to vehicles like the Jaguar I-Pace and BMW iX, offering an electric option in the same league as the Lamborghini Urus S. Furthermore, Lotus intends to further establish itself in the Indian automotive scene by launching its mid-engine sports vehicle, the Lotus Emira, there at some point in 2024.
