Land Rover Defender Octa Scheduled for Debut Later This Year

Later this year, Land Rover is set to unveil the new Defender Octa marking the debut of the first JLR vehicle to bear this distinguished badge. Initially anticipated to carry the SVX branding, the decision to adopt the 'Octa' name represents a departure from tradition, signaling the designation for all forthcoming flagship Defender models. Derived from the octahedron shape of a diamond, renowned as the hardest naturally occurring mineral on Earth, the name embodies the Defender Octa's durability and premium positioning.

Technical Specifications

While specific technical details are not yet fully disclosed, JLR has Confirmed key aspects of the new variant. The Defender Octa will be powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, diverging from the supercharged 'AJ' unit found in current eight-cylinder Defender models. Indications suggest the adoption of the 4.4-litre BMW-sourced engine utilized in various Range Rover iterations, notably the Sport SV, where it delivers an impressive 618hp and 800Nm of torque. Accelerating the 2.5-tonne SUV from 0 to 100kph in a mere 3.8 seconds, this powerhouse promises exhilarating performance.

Innovative Suspension System

Setting a new standard for off-road prowess, the Defender Octa will incorporate the revolutionary '6D Dynamic' suspension system, similar to the technology employed in the Range Rover Sport SV. Instead of using a conventional anti-roll bar, this system uses hydraulic connections between the dampers to actively control the pitch and roll of the vehicle. With exceptional on-road comfort and drivability this innovation guarantees unwavering wheel articulation—a crucial feature for negotiating difficult off-road terrain.

Rigorous Testing and Performance Focus

Demonstrating Land Rover's commitment to excellence, the Defender Octa undergoes rigorous testing across diverse environments, including the snow and ice of Sweden, the deserts of Dubai, the Nurburgring Tarmac, and the rock crawls of Moab. Performance-oriented design is highlighted by the vehicle's installation of custom Brembo brakes. Adorned with the distinctive Octa diamond logo on the brake calipers, steering wheel, and side-pannier mounts, the Defender Octa epitomizes the pinnacle of the SUV lineup.
