KTM, a popular motorcycle brand in India, faced a challenging period in September 2023. In this report, we'll explore the sales figures for various KTM models and analyze their performance both year-on-year (YoY) and month-on-month (MoM).

KTM's Product Range in India

KTM offers a range of motorcycles in India, including the Duke and RC series. The models include Duke 125, Duke 200, Duke 250, Duke 390, RC 125, RC 200, RC 390, ADV 250, and ADV 390.

YoY Sales Decline

Compared to September 2022, KTM experienced a significant decline in domestic sales in September 2023. The total domestic sales amounted to 4,690 units, a steep decline of 43.51% from the 8,302 units sold the previous year.

Duke 200 Dominates

Among KTM's offerings, the Duke 200 retained the highest market share, selling 3,112 units. Although this marked a 21.61% decline from the previous year, it still accounted for 66.35% of the domestic market.

YoY Performance

  • KTM 390 sales decreased by 25.90% YoY, with 1,116 units sold, holding a 23.80% market share.
  • KTM 250 struggled the most, experiencing an 88.01% drop, selling only 259 units in September 2023.
  • KTM 125 also faced a significant setback, with 203 units sold, down by 69.52% from the previous year.

MoM Sales Decrease

Comparing September 2023 to August 2023, KTM's domestic sales showed a MoM decrease. Total sales in September 2023 were 12.66% lower than in August 2023.

MoM Performance

  • KTM 200 sales declined by 8.55% MoM, with a 63.37% market share.
  • KTM 390 experienced a 30.53% increase in sales, claiming a 15.92% market share.
  • KTM 250 saw a significant MoM drop of 70.80%.
  • KTM 125 also suffered a MoM decline, down by 9.78%.
  • KTM's Exports in September 2023

KTM's exports also faced challenges, with a significant decline both YoY and MoM.

YoY Export Performance

  • KTM 390 exports fell by 47.92% YoY, with 1,151 units exported.
  • KTM 200 exports experienced a slight YoY increase of 8.22%.
  • KTM 250 exports plummeted by 99.30%.
  • Surprisingly, KTM 125 had no exports in September 2023.

MoM Export Performance

  • KTM 390 exports increased by 12.40% MoM.
  • KTM 200 exports showed a MoM improvement, up by 6.33%.
  • KTM 250 exports plummeted by 99.53% MoM.
  • There were no exports of the KTM 125 in September 2023.

Cumulative Sales (Domestic + Exports) - YoY

  • In terms of cumulative sales, KTM 200 retained the highest market share at 59.92%, with 4,086 units sold. KTM 390 followed with 2,267 units sold, claiming a 33.25% market share. However, KTM 250 and KTM 125 faced challenges, with minimal market share.
  • In total, KTM achieved sales of 6,819 units in September 2023, reflecting a significant decline of 47.39% from the previous year.

September 2023 vs. August 2023

  • In comparison to the previous month, KTM 200 remained dominant, holding 52.82% of the market. KTM 390 saw a significant MoM increase of 20.65%, while KTM 250 faced an 84.95% MoM decline. KTM 125's market share remained limited.
  • Total cumulative sales in September 2023 decreased by 16.61% compared to August 2023.

KTM India faced challenging sales figures in September 2023, both YoY and MoM, with some models showing significant declines. Duke 200 continued to be the top performer, but overall sales experienced a substantial drop during this period.
