In continuation of our previous reports on top motorcycle sales and sales within the 300-500cc segment, we now delve into the sales figures of motorcycles falling within the 150-200cc category. Customers who want a combination of performance and fuel efficiency are drawn to this segment which continuously exhibits great performance. In January 2024, overall sales of motorcycles in the 150-200cc segment experienced a significant growth of 31.03 percent, totaling 160,337 units, compared to 122,369 units sold in January 2023, marking a volume increase of 37,968 units. Most models in this segment witnessed heightened demand, with the Bajaj Pulsar leading the pack.

Top Performers in January 2024

The Bajaj Pulsar range led the charge in January 2024, with sales of 51,406 units, marking a significant increase of 49.84 percent from January 2023. This success allowed the Pulsar to command a substantial 32.06 percent market share. The TVS Apache secured the second spot with 31,222 units sold, an 8.37 percent increase from the previous year. The Apache's market presence could further strengthen with the rumored launch of a fully-faired version.

Model-Specific Sales Insights

Not all models experienced growth, however. The Honda Unicorn saw a decline of 15.95 percent in sales, dropping to 18,506 units in January 2024. Yamaha made a strong showing with two models: the MT15, which saw a 73.08 percent year-on-year growth to 15,124 units, and the FZ, with sales improving by 14.48 percent to 14,678 units.

Five bikes in this segment achieved sales exceeding 10,000 units. The Yamaha R15, another popular model, recorded sales of 9,676 units, reflecting a 22.09 percent year-on-year growth.

Sub-10,000 Units Sales Analysis

The Honda SP160, launched in late 2023, sold 4,719 units, capturing a 2.94 percent market share. The KTM 200 range also experienced a surge in sales, with a 62.89 percent year-on-year increase to 3,450 units in January 2024. The Hero Xtreme 160R/200 followed closely with 3,389 units sold, a substantial 242.67 percent growth from January 2023.

Notably, the Hero Xpulse sales dipped slightly by 4.74 percent to 2,312 units. However, the Xpulse remains a strong contender in international markets often featuring prominently on the company's export list.

The Honda Hornet 2.0 saw an impressive 879.81 percent year-on-year growth to 2,087 units in January 2024, likely boosted by the launch of the 2023 Hornet 2.0, which introduced several first-in-segment features.

Other notable models in this segment include the Suzuki Gixxer with 1,320 units sold, the Bajaj Avenger with 1,290 units, and the Honda CB200X, which saw a remarkable 35,033.33 percent growth to 1,054 units sold in January 2024. The Kawasaki W175 concluded the list with 104 units sold, experiencing a 56.85 percent year-on-year decline from 241 units in January 2023.

The motorcycle segment in the 150-200cc range continues to witness robust growth and diversified consumer preferences. A dynamic and competitive market landscape is the consequence of manufacturers inventing and offering new models to meet this demand.
