Ineos Unveils the Fusilier: A New Electric SUV

Ineos has unveiled the Fusilier, a smaller sibling to the Grenadier, as its third model following the Grenadier SUV and Quartermaster pickup. The Fusilier introduces a pure-electric powertrain option alongside a range-extender (REx) variant boasting world-class off-road capabilities.

Design and Interior

The Fusilier shares a visual relationship with the Grenadier, with a focus on aerodynamic efficiency. Features include rounded edges, flush windows, recessed door hinges and active grille shutters. The interior design has not been revealed yet, but it will include physical buttons and switches similar to the Grenadier.

Battery, Range, and Powertrain

The electric version of the Fusilier targets a range of 400 km, while the REx variant aims for approximately 270 km of range with the engine off. Batteries will be supplied by Samsung and assembled in Hungary. Both the EV and REx models will have an electric motor at each end for four-wheel drive, engineered for effective performance on challenging terrain. The Fusilier will also feature improved on-road behavior compared to the Grenadier.

Range-Extender Powertrain

The REx powertrain addresses the limitations of battery-electric vehicles in certain situations. The REx's petrol engine will act as a generator for the electric motors, with Ineos estimating that this variant will emit 20-30% of the CO2 compared to a conventional internal combustion engine model.

Production and Rivals

The addition of the REx option has pushed back the Fusilier's planned launch date from 2026 to early 2027. The vehicle will be engineered and developed by Magna and undergo durability testing on the Shöckl Pass. The Fusilier will compete with upcoming compact electric derivatives of the Land Rover Defender, Toyota Land Cruiser and Mercedes G-Class
