India's Smallest Electric Car Officially Launched At Rs 7.98 Lakh

The MG Comet EV has been officially launched in the Indian markets and it is priced at Rs 7.98 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom, India). While this is the base price for the three-door EV, prices for further versions will be disclosed soon. The Comet EV is in its own class, MG is targeting buyers looking for a small-footprint city runabout. Starting on April 27, you can take a test drive of the Comet EV. Reservations will begin on May 15 with delivery beginning later that month.

The Comet EV is based on the Wuling Air EV and it sports a boxy design language with intriguing embellishments. The full-width LED light bar is known as the Extended Horizon connecting lights by MG. The wing mirrors are connected by a chrome and piano black strip. The charging port for the Comet EV is in the front, underneath the light bar, and it has an illuminated MG logo on its flap.

The smallest wheel size provided on any vehicle currently on the market is the one on Comet EV i.e. 12-inch alloy wheels. It also features asymmetrical windows, with the back windows positioned vertically. The Comet EV also gets the Extended Horizon connecting lights at the back. The interior of the Comet EV is white and grey, with two 10.25-inch screens. The front passenger seat is a one-touch tumble and fold, while the rear seats are split 50:50.

The Comet EV includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and manual AC settings. It also has keyless entry, steering-mounted controls, 3 USB ports, and 55+ linked features. ABS, EBD, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a reverse camera and sensors, and dual front airbags are among the safety features.

The Comet EV is powered by a 17.3kWh battery that is IP67-rated for water and dust resistance and has an ARAI-certified range of 230 km. MG also provides a 3.3kW onboard charger that charges the battery in seven hours. Tata AutoComp supplied the battery to MG. A single electric motor with automatic transmission produces a max power of 42 hp and 110 Nm of peak torque.
