Reduction in Carbon Emissions

The company monitors direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) emissions to minimize its carbon footprint. Initiatives include the use of renewable energy, conversion of propane to LNG, and the establishment of a 10 MW solar plant at its Chennai manufacturing facility. Hyundai has also purchased green power from the Indian Energy Exchange, increasing its renewable energy portfolio to 64% and reducing CO2 emissions by 1,02,060 tonnes.

Water Management

Hyundai has implemented a zero liquid discharge system and constructed six large water reservoirs at its Chennai plant, which hold 3,50,000 metric tonnes of water. This system supports rainwater harvesting and meets 50% of the company's water requirements. Hyundai has achieved 80% water neutrality through recycled RO water and reduced water usage by 30%.

Harmful Substance Management

The company adheres to domestic laws and global standards to manage harmful wastes. Techniques such as screw press filters have led to a 19.4% reduction in hazardous wastes and a 14.3% reduction in non-hazardous wastes over the past five years.

Expanding EV Lineup

Hyundai is committed to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio and has pledged an investment of Rs. 32,000 crores over the next 10 years for this purpose.

Hyundai's Vision for the Future

Mr. Gopala Krishnan CS, Chief Manufacturing Officer at HMIL emphasized the company's dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainable development goals. Hyundai's initiatives are aimed at achieving carbon neutrality, energy transition, circularity, clean tech products and services, operational eco-efficiency, and natural capital conservation. The company's "Integrated Solutions to Climate Change" initiative targets carbon neutrality by 2045, with a focus on creating a sustainable operating system for future generations. Hyundai's proactive approach to sustainability and renewable energy sets a benchmark for the automotive industry and demonstrates its commitment to a greener future.
