Hyundai i20 N Line Facelift: A Comparison Between Europe and India

Hyundai's recent unveiling of the facelifted i20 N Line for the European market has sparked interest among car enthusiasts, especially when compared to the Indian-spec model launched last year. The European model brings a fresh perspective with its design tweaks and additional features, setting it apart from its Indian counterpart.

Exterior Design Differences

  • Front Design: The European i20 N Line showcases a subtle yet impactful change in its front design. The grille, while retaining the overall design, appears slightly larger, giving the car a more pronounced front fascia. The fog lamp housing in the European model adopts a more angular, triangular shape, contributing to a sharper look. Additionally, the front bumper is sleeker and omits the red accents found in the Indian version, providing a cleaner aesthetic.

  • Side Profile: The side profile of the European i20 N Line reveals a noticeable change in the alloy wheels' color and size. The European model sports all-black, 17-inch alloy wheels, offering a more aggressive and sporty appearance compared to the 16-inch wheels on the Indian model. The side cladding on the European version is also slightly sportier, adding to the dynamic character of the car.

  • Rear Design: At the rear, the European i20 N Line features a different bumper design with air dams on either side, resulting in a chunkier overall appearance. The absence of a chrome strip between the tail lights, a feature present in the Indian model, further differentiates the European version.

Interior and Technological Enhancements

  • Driver's Display: The interior of the European i20 N Line boasts a significant upgrade with a 10.25-inch fully digital driver's display, mirroring the one seen in the facelifted Hyundai Creta. This is a notable improvement over the smaller semi-digital driver's display found in the Indian-spec model, offering a more modern and immersive driving experience.

  • Advanced Safety Features: One of the major distinctions between the European and Indian models lies in the safety features. The European i20 N Line is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including lane keep assist, park assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and auto emergency braking. These features enhance the safety and convenience of the vehicle, surpassing the basic safety package offered in the Indian model, which includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, rearview camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Performance and Efficiency

Both the European and Indian versions of the i20 N Line are powered by the same 1-litre turbo-petrol engine. However, the European model benefits from the addition of 48V mild-hybrid technology, which improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions. Moreover, there is a variant in the European lineup that offers a slight increase in torque, from 172 Nm to 200 Nm, while maintaining the same peak power output of 120 PS. This enhancement contributes to a more responsive and dynamic driving experience.

The European-spec Hyundai i20 N Line sets itself apart from the Indian-spec model with its design modifications, advanced safety features, and improved fuel efficiency. These differences cater to the varying preferences and requirements of the European and Indian markets, offering consumers a tailored choice based on their geographical location.
