Honda Reveals SC e - Electric Scooter Concept at Tokyo Motor Show

At the Tokyo Motor Show, also known as the Japan Mobility Show, Honda introduced the SC e: electric scooter concept, offering a vision of future urban commuting. The design of this concept is sleek and futuristic, evocative of the Activa-i, which was previously offered in India. The SC e: concept is distinguished by its sharp lines, curvaceous profile, and full LED lighting, combined with characteristic blue accents commonly found on concept motorcycles.

A Power Configuration

One of the significant highlights of the SC e: concept is its innovative power setup. This electric scooter incorporates two removable battery packs, each boasting a substantial capacity of around 1.3 kWh. When combined, these batteries give the SC e: concept a total capacity of approximately 2.6 kWh. This configuration suggests extended range and enhanced practicality for urban commuters, promising a solution for the evolving landscape of electric urban mobility.

Underlying Mechanical Features

While Honda has kept some of the mechanical details under wraps, a closer examination of the SC e: concept reveals some fundamental features. The scooter sports a telescopic fork and monoshock suspension setup, which not only promises a comfortable ride but also ensures stability and control. The braking system is a combination of a disc brake and a drum brake, further enhancing safety during city commutes. Both the front and rear wheels appear to be of the same 12-inch size, a common choice for urban scooters that emphasizes agility and ease of maneuvering.

The Path to Carbon Neutrality

Honda has not confirmed plans for the SC e: concept to transition into a production model. The company's press release, on the other hand, makes a strong commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in the motorbike industry, with an initial concentration on commuters. While we wait for more information on the SC e: concept's fate, it's apparent that Honda is committed to connecting its products with the expanding landscape of eco-friendly urban mobility.

Future Production Plans

While Honda has not yet officially announced plans for production, it is speculated that the SC e: concept could become available in international markets by the end of 2024. However, it is unlikely to be introduced in the Indian market anytime soon. Instead, Honda may be focusing on launching the electric Activa in India in the near future.
