It’s that time of the year again when we drive with a convoy of Hondas to explore a scenic part of India. ‘Drive To Discover’, for its 12th iteration, saw us take a ‘Journey To The East’ through parts of West Bengal and Sikkim. I’d heard good things from my colleagues who had attended previous iterations of the annual Honda event and I was excited to experience it for myself. A lot of driving and a fleet of Hondas were on the agenda for the next couple of days. My partner in crime colleague and , who’d agreed to play rock-paper-scissors to call dibs on driving first for the day. In hindsight, not a good idea. The Honda Drive to Discover 12 commenced in Siliguri with the manual Honda Elevate. A 100 km journey showcased the SUV's versatility, smoothly handling mixed terrains. Despite a prolonged traffic jam near Melli, the Elevate's luxurious interior made the journey comfortable. Navigating twisty roads in Sikkim, the SUV demonstrated stability and impressive handling. Early start to Nathula Pass with the automatic Honda Elevate, equipped for sub-zero temperatures. Scenic drive, courtesy of BRO, showcased the Elevate's capabilities. Sunroof provided a mountain breeze experience. Restricted access near the China border, marking the first snowy Honda Drive to Discover. Descending tested handling on well-surfaced roads. Relaxed journey to Pelling in the manual Honda Amaze. Despite a smaller boot, efficient luggage accommodation. Small detours added to the adventure. The Amaze, while comfortable, lacked the plushness of the Elevate. Spirited performance on flat stretches surprised us. Smooth handling through bends and inclines, though not as effortless as the Elevate. Evening at the resort with a bonfire, marking a relaxed Sunday night. An early start in Pelling allowed a visit to the impressive Pelling Skywalk with stunning views of the Kanchenjunga mountain range. The Elevate navigated challenging terrains to reach Darjeeling, showcasing its prowess on tight ascents, broken roads, and narrow lanes. Lunch at the Ging Tea Estate offered a delightful break. The journey to Kalimpong featured a descent where the Elevate demonstrated dynamic capabilities, impressively maintaining pace along the twisty roads. The final leg of Honda Drive to Discover 12 saw a short 65 km drive from Kalimpong to Siliguri. The Honda City 4rth , our last ride, offered comfort despite its compact boot compromised by the electrified powertrain. The drive was uneventful compared to the breathtaking views of the past four days. With ample time before the evening flight back to Pune, we explored local markets for Darjeeling tea and handicrafts. My first time being part of Honda Drive To Discover had proven to be a memorable experience. It was a wholesome adventure overall with the variety of Honda cars as our trusty companions through it all.
