Hero MotoCorp has finally launched the much-awaited Harley-Davidson X440 in the Indian market with a starting price tag of Rs 2.29 lakhs (ex-showroom). At this price point, X440 is the most affordable Harley motorcycle to date and it would be competing with the likes of the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Benelli Imperiale 400, Bajaj Dominar 400, Triumph Speed 400, and the Honda CB350 Highness.
The price mentioned above is for the base variant, while the top variant is available for Rs 2.69 lakhs (ex-showroom). The top-spec model has a tonne of high-end features, including alloy wheels with diamond cuts, Bluetooth connectivity, and 3D logos. The top model also has turn-by-turn navigation, thanks to the Bluetooth module.
The Harley-Davidson X440, a heavily localised motorcycle made by Hero MotoCorp, competes against entry-level middleweight motorcycles from manufacturers like Royal Enfield, Honda, Jawa, and Yezdi. The X440 is more potent and torquey when compared to the majority of its competitors. It is powered by a brand-new 440cc single-cylinder Fi engine.
Talking about the looks, Harley-Davidson X440 features a retro-inspired design. The brand has equipped it with a round headlight with integrated Harley-Davidson branding. Some of the other key design elements of the motorcycle include a single-pod instrument cluster, a flat handlebar, a side-slung exhaust system, machined alloy wheels, and retro-style round indicators.
Coming to the mechanical specifications of the Harley-Davidson X440, the bike is powered by a 440cc single-cylinder air+oil cooled engine, which generates maximum power of 27 Bhp at 6,000 rpm along with 38 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
Talking about the other mechanical parts of the motorcycle, the X440 features 43mm USD (upside-down) front forks and twin rear shock absorbers. The braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends, and the bike comes standard with a dual-channel ABS unit. The bike rides on an 18-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel with MRF tyres. The new Hero-Harley bike underpins the tubular trellis frame.
