Formula E Hyderabad E-Prix Confirmed for 2024

Formula E is all set to return to India with the 2024 Hyderabad E-Prix scheduled for February 10, 2024, and this exciting event is part of a 16-round calendar unveiled following a World Motor Sport Council meeting.

The inaugural Hyderabad E-Prix took place earlier this year, with the track winding through the scenic streets near Hussain Sagar Lake and drawing a crowd of approximately 31,000 motorsport enthusiasts. Alberto Longo, co-founder and chief championship officer of Formula E emphasized the significance of having a presence in India, stating that it was "a must" for the series.

Despite the initial challenges that often accompany hosting a race for the first time in any city Formula E was determined to work through them. However, there were doubts about whether the Hyderabad E-Prix would return, especially after the event's organizing team disbanded in August. But now, Formula E has officially confirmed the 2024 Hyderabad E-Prix, thanks to support from the Telangana Government and Minister KT Rama Rao.

Indian motorsport fans will have more to cheer about in the upcoming season, as Jehan Daruvala will be racing for Maserati, adding to India's representation on the grid.

The 2024 Formula E calendar holds even more excitement. After a five-year hiatus, Formula E is making a comeback in China, with the first-ever Shanghai E-Prix scheduled as a double-header in May 2024. With this milestone, Formula E will be the first motorsport championship in 2024 to compete in the world's three most populous countries: China, India, and the United States.

Alberto Longo, Formula E's co-founder, and chief championship officer is thrilled with the upcoming season, stating, "Without a doubt, our Season 10 calendar is the most compelling yet for drivers, teams, fans, and viewers worldwide. The combination of street circuits and traditional racing tracks, which is in Formula E's DNA, will allow drivers to test the capabilities of the Gen3 car harder and further."

While there's much to look forward to in the 2024 season, it's essential to note that three events have been dropped from the calendar. Jakarta, Rome, and Cape Town will not be part of the 2024 calendar. The Italian rounds are under review due to experts finding that the new Gen3 Formula E car has pushed the limits of the narrow, sharp-turning circuit in Rome's business district. Formula E is actively exploring alternative venues, including permanent circuits, to ensure a strong presence in the Italian market.

The 2024 Formula E calendar is as follows:

  1. Mexico City, Mexico - January 13
  2. Diriyah, Saudi Arabia - January 26
