First Glimpse: Maruti Engage MPV with Toyota Innova Hycross Foundation

  • There don't appear to be many differences between the Hycross and the Maruti MPV.
  • To receive new alloy wheels, a grille modeled after the Nexa, and LED tail lamp details.
  • It has dual-zone air conditioning, a 10-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
  • It will be the first Maruti to be equipped with ADAS technology based on radar.
  • To employ the 2-liter gasoline engine with robust hybrid technology that is an option for the Innova.

The upcoming Maruti MPV, expected to be named the "Maruti Engage," is set to make its debut on July 5. This new vehicle is essentially a rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross. As we approach its launch, the first undisguised spy shot of the Maruti MPV has surfaced, revealing key details.

Exterior Changes

The spy shot indicates that the Maruti MPV features minimal changes compared to the Hycross. However, there are distinctive elements to set it apart. The front of the Maruti MPV showcases a Nexa-inspired chrome grille which differentiates it from its Toyota counterpart. While the overall front profile remains quite similar to the Toyota MPV, the grille adds a unique touch.

Alloy Wheels and Rear Design

Several test mules of the Maruti MPV have been spotted, with one showcasing a different alloy wheel design. It's likely that the Maruti version will offer a new alloy wheel design to further distinguish itself. The side and rear views of the vehicle closely resemble those of the Toyota MPV, except for the tail lamp design, which draws inspiration from Nexa.

Interior Features

The interior of the Maruti MPV is expected to closely mirror the Hycross. It will feature a dual-tone color scheme and an identical list of features. Some of the standout features include a panoramic sunroof, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and powered Ottoman seats in the second row. Safety will be a priority, with up to six airbags, a 360-degree camera, TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).

Powertrain and Technology

The Maruti MPV is set to borrow the 2-litre petrol engine from the Innova Hycross, which will also come with strong-hybrid technology as an option. The hybrid version of the MPV is expected to produce up to 186PS and deliver an impressive fuel economy of up to 23.24 kmpl. While the petrol variants will come with a CVT transmission, the hybrid variant will be equipped with an e-CVT (single-speed transmission).

Pricing and Market Position

In terms of pricing, the Innova Hycross is currently available in the range of Rs 18.55 lakh to Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is expected that the Maruti MPV will have a similar price tag, positioning it as a premium alternative. While the Maruti MPV won't have direct competitors, it is likely to be considered an attractive alternative to models like the Kia Carens.

The upcoming Maruti MPV with its distinctive design elements and shared technology with the Innova Hycross, is set to offer Indian consumers a compelling choice in the MPV segment. Its debut on July 5 will unveil the full extent of its features and capabilities providing potential buyers with a new and exciting option in the market.
