Ferrari Unveils Limited Edition Supercar: The SP-8

Ferrari just debuted the SP-8, their newest design that pays homage to their legendary twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 engineā€”a behemoth that has won four times as the International Engine of the Year. The F8 Tributo and F8 Spider, which get their names from the engines that drive them, served as the models from which this new marvel was built. Car fans will be in awe of the futuristic roadster that the SP-8 creates from these components.

One of the things that makes the SP-8 unique is its open-top design. In contrast to the F8 Spider convertible, the SP-8 does not have a roof at all. As a result of this choice, Ferrari's designers were able to redesign the back of the car without having to make room for a foldable roof. As a result, the car's shoulder line has a noticeable split. The lower deck is painted silver and flows smoothly into the engine bay cover, while the upper deck is made of glass and carbon fiber and Ferrari claims that significant aerodynamic adjustments were necessary as a result of this radical redesign to reduce wind noise.

The front end of the SP-8 is constructed from lightweight carbon fiber and boasts several changes. The headlights have been made thinner, and the grille has been widened to enhance airflow to the front radiators giving the car a more aggressive appearance. Interestingly, this section is left unpainted, creating a compelling contrast with the matte grey rear end.

The SP-8 also pays homage to various mainstream Ferrari models from the past and present. The rear lights, for instance, are derived from those found on the Roma Grand Tourer and the five-spoke wheels are designed to evoke memories of the iconic F40.

Inside the SP-8, the center console has been adapted to accommodate the H-pattern-mimicking gear selector borrowed from the SF90 and 296 GTB models. It's important to note that the SP-8 is a one-of-a-kind creation, in line with previous 'Special Projects' cars like the SP38 and the SP275 RW.

This exceptional vehicle was commissioned by a client from Taiwan, where the number 8 is considered extraordinarily lucky, as per Ferrari. The SP-8 made its debut at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali event held at the Mugello circuit in northern Italy on October 24. Following the showcase, it will find its place in the Ferrari Museum in Maranello where it will be on display until March 2024.
