Exploring the Toyota Hilux GR Sport II - Off-Road Pickup Upgrades

Toyota has unveiled the Hilux GR Sport II, a pickup truck designed for off-road enthusiasts. While it's currently exclusive to the European market, this model is making waves for its mechanical and cosmetic enhancements over the standard Hilux. Examine the features this pickup has now.

Mechanical Improvements

The Hilux GR Sport II comes with several mechanical enhancements that significantly boost its off-road capabilities. It now has 240mm of ground clearance instead of the previous 220mm, improving off-road capability. This also improves its approach angle, increasing it from 29 to 30 degrees.

In addition, the front tire tread has grown by 140mm, while the rear sees a 155mm increase. With these modifications, the vehicle's stability will be improved, the roll angle will be decreased, and the steering reaction will be accurate. The GR Sport II Hilux, according to Toyota, is the greatest Hilux for both on- and off-road excursions because of these technical improvements.

Further mechanical changes include larger front disc brakes (17 inches) and the replacement of drum units with 15-inch rear disc brakes. The engine remains the same, with a 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine producing 204PS of power and 500Nm of peak torque.

Cosmetic Enhancements

Visually, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport II sports an updated grille, giving it a more aggressive look compared to the standard model. The front bumper has been redesigned to feature new fog lamp housings and a silver skid plate. The pickup rides on new 17-inch gloss black alloy wheels and proudly displays GR badges on the front grille and tailgate.

The interior of the Hilux GR Sport II is all black with red accents. Aluminum paddle shifters and foot pedals add a sporty touch. You'll also find various GR Sport stickers and badges on the dashboard, door panels, instrument cluster, and multi-information display. Toyota has upgraded the pickup with a new touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Launch Details

The Toyota Hilux GR Sport II is scheduled to hit the European market in the second half of 2024. As of now, there's no official word on a possible India launch. However, considering the steady sales of the Hilux in India, Toyota might consider introducing a special edition Hilux in the near future.
