Exciting Motorsport Action: F4 India Championship and Indian Racing League Season 2 Debut in Chennai

Introduction

The world of motorsport is abuzz as the F4 India Championship and the second season of the Indian Racing League recently kicked off in Chennai, India. This event brings together talented racers from India and around the world, competing in two thrilling racing series that promises high-octane action and a showcase of driving prowess. In a last-minute venue change, the Hyderabad street circuit had to make way for the Madras International Circuit due to elections in Telangana, setting the stage for an unforgettable racing season. Let's dive into the details of these captivating championships.

F4 India Championship Begins in Chennai

The F4 India Championship marks its debut alongside the second season of the Indian Racing League. The decision to shift the venue from Hyderabad to Chennai was prompted by the organizers' respect for the rules and regulations of the Election Commission. As a result, the entire 2023 season will unfold in Chennai. Rounds 2 and 3 will take place at the Madras International Circuit, while the new 'Formula Racing Circuit' street track will host the thrilling season finale.

F4 India Championship Highlights

  • The F4 India Championship features a grid of 11 drivers, all vying for valuable Super Licence points.
  • All participants compete in the FIA-homologated Gen 2 Mygale F4 car, the same vehicle used in the French F4 championship.
  • Dutch team MP Motorsport takes charge of all the cars for the inaugural season, ensuring competitive and fair racing.
  • Making a notable entrance into the championship is 20-year-old Australian Cooper Webster. He demonstrated his racing talent by securing victories in two out of three races during the opening weekend. Webster's journey into motorsport began as a sim racer, and he's a part of the prestigious Red Bull Esports squad. Last year, he made the leap into real-life racing, competing in Australia's S5000 series and finishing as the runner-up. He also competed in the UK's GB4 Championship, gaining recognition and experience.
  • Another standout performance came from Akshay Bohra, who recently clinched third place in the Euro 4 Championship. Bohra claimed victory in the first-ever F4 India race from pole position. However, in Race 3, despite crossing the finish line first, he was handed two post-race penalties that demoted him to the 7th position. This twist of fate handed the race win to Cooper Webster, who also took the overall championship lead.

Indian Racing League Season 2 Kicks Off in Chennai

The Indian Racing League is back for its second season, continuing with the same Wolf GB08 Thunder single-seaters. The league maintains its unique format, featuring five city-based teams with a mix of Indian and international drivers. What's noteworthy is that each team also includes a female driver, reflecting the league's commitment to inclusivity.

Reigning champions, Godspeed Kochi, had a strong start with Ruhaan Alva securing a victory in Race 1. Goa Aces' Sohil Shah initially claimed pole position for Race 2, but Bangalore Speedsters emerged victorious with Sarah Moore behind the wheel. This victory marked a historic moment as Sarah Moore became the first woman to win a race in the Indian Racing League.

As the motorsport season unfolds, Round 2 is scheduled to take place at the same venue on November 30 and December 1, promising more thrilling races and moments of excellence on the track. Stay tuned for all the updates and witness the adrenaline-fueled action in these two fantastic racing championships.
