Custom-Made ATV Powered by Hero Karizma's 223cc Engine

Chances of encountering a Hero Honda Karizma on four wheels are pretty rare and this specific built is credited to the final year students of CT Institute, Jalandhar. They worked really hard to achieve this ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) formation out of the donor Hero Honda Karizma. Gobind Singh and his colleagues started all this from scratch and sourced parts from various automotive brands to make it happen at the lowest possible cost. Hundreds of hours were invested into the project and the outcome was really impressive at the end. Here is the full story behind this exclusive product. DSC_0097

Custom-Made ATV Powered by Hero Karizma's 223cc Engine

It all started with an engine and gearbox from the 223cc Karizma, producing 16.8 BHP of maximum power and around 18 Nm of torque. The engine was a perfect match to the body type as enough torque was present to propel these couple of wheels on every terrain. The gearbox being 5-speed was even useful for lesser gearshifts during the trial. The frame is fully custom designed, holding the engine at the right height and carrying mounts for every other necessary part inside the ATV. The thickness of the frame was kept half and three-fourth of an inch at most places. IMG-20170318-WA0008 The front suspension used here is from the Bajaj Discover, helping them keep the cost under check and utilizing the SNS technology from Bajaj for better stability on rough surfaces. The front hub was sourced from Maruti 800 while Speedways 10 inch tyres with steel rims were used on all four ends. The rear hub was self made and fixed with a disc brake, most probably being the one from Hero Honda Karizma. The rear suspension is from Bajaj Pulsar 180 while they sourced the 13 liter fuel tank from an unknown Suzuki model. Things started getting in shape after these fitments. IMG-20170318-WA0018 The front fairing, side panels and the rear designing of panels was done by the team themselves. Every panel was welded together and then finished in the Dark Green shade. While the engine was air cooled and easily accessible, more air was channelized through the mesh design on the front frame. The engine was then fitted with a custom exhaust and placed safely under the seat. Gobind even used front and rear LED lights to warn others about the approaching ATV and make it practical for night use. It even carries dual horn under the front fairing. The total cost of building the same was INR 55,000. IMG-20170318-WA0022 They have claimed a top speed of around 80 kmph from the ATV while its off-road ability will be soon tested under controlled conditions. Making of such an excellent machine with limited resourced is really praiseworthy for these college students. If every student takes the responsibility of taking his/her study seriously, it could bring more and more chances of success and even more exposure to their booming career. The ATV was recently displayed at Pushpa Gujral Science City and may help them built future product with even more precision.
