Citroen has declared that starting from the latter half of 2024, all its models will come standard with six airbags. Currently, only the flagship C5 Aircross is equipped with six airbags, while other models like the C3, eC3, and C3 Aircross feature just two airbags, even in their highest variants.

Citroen Safety Enhancements

  • Models to Receive Six Airbags: The C3, eC3, and C3 Aircross will be upgraded to include six airbags as a standard feature from the second half of 2024.
  • Additional Safety Features: Along with the six airbags, Citroen will also standardize Isofix seat anchorages and rear seatbelt reminders on these models. Existing safety features include ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors and a camera. The C3 Aircross will continue to offer a tyre pressure monitoring system and hill-hold assist.

While the addition of six airbags as a standard feature is not yet required, there has been a growing emphasis on vehicle safety with the government advocating for stricter safety regulations. Automakers such as Hyundai, Kia, and Tata Motors have already standardized six airbags across their lineups.

Citroen's introduction of this safety update is somewhat delayed, particularly for models like the C3 Aircross, which competes in a segment where six airbags are commonly found in top-spec variants. This enhancement is expected to be a significant addition to these models which have faced criticism for being under-equipped. However, this upgrade is expected to result in a slight increase in the prices of all affected models.

Upcoming Citroen Launches in 2024
