BYD Auto, the renowned Chinese automaker, is set to introduce its latest offering, the Seal all-electric sedan, to the Indian market on March 5, 2024. Priced around Rs. 50 lakh, the Seal EV is positioned to rival competitors like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, marking BYD's expansion in India alongside its existing lineup consisting of the Atto 3 SUV and E6 MPV.

Design

The Seal EV boasts a sleek exterior design characterized by prominent LED headlights, signature C-shaped DRLs, and stylish five-split spoke alloy wheels that accentuate its low-slung profile. At the rear, the connected LED taillights with a unique fish scale pattern add a touch of sophistication to its overall appearance making it a head-turner on the road.

Step inside the Seal sedan, and you'll find a minimalist cabin adorned with flowing lines and curves that exude a sense of elegance. While not as eccentric as the Atto 3, the Seal offers a plush interior equipped with modern features. A rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen entertainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, a panoramic glass roof, and cutting-edge driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and blind-spot monitoring for increased convenience and safety are among the highlights.

Powertrain Specifications

Globally, the Seal EV is available with an 82.5 kWh battery pack and offers two powertrain options: a rear-wheel-drive single electric motor or an all-wheel-drive dual electric motor setup. The former delivers 313 PS/ 360 Nm with a claimed range of up to 570 km, while the latter produces 530 PS/ 670 Nm with a claimed range of 520 km. However, the specifics of the India-spec Seal's powertrain have yet to be disclosed.

Expected Price

As a likely fully imported model, the BYD Seal is anticipated to be priced in the range of Rs. 50 lakh to Rs. 60 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the chosen powertrain configuration. The Seal EV is positioned as a strong competitor in the Indian electric vehicle industry because of its affordable cost which also provides customers with an alluring substitute for models from other brands.
