Brand-Wise Sales Report: TVS Beats Honda in March 2019

The brand-wise sales report for March 2019 brings reshuffling of positions that were earlier assumed to be the same throughout the year. The first position has been bagged by Hero Motocorp with 5,53,302 units, registering a drop of 21.5% in the YoY number. The second position now goes to TVS Motor, taking away the spot from none other than Honda by getting approx 25,000 units more than the Japanese rival. TVS registered 2,47,710 units while Honda was good for 2,22,325 units in March 2019. Both the brands saw a drop in sales as TVS got 6.6% negative growth while Honda was the worst hit brand with 46.7% drop in YoY sales number. The difference of approx 2,000 units could have been bridged easily if they had officially announced the arrival of new Dominar than letting fans enjoy the test reviews and spy shots. The first four brands have their own league like no other option in India, or even the remaining brands combined can cross any of the above-listed names. Yamaha is good for the fifth position with 72,676 units. The majority of sales number from Yamaha comes from motorcycles. They are riding on the success of Access 125 and Burgman Street while motorcycle contributes a very small chunk of their sales number in India. Both these Japanese brands dethroned Royal Enfield from its earlier position, leaving the same with just a small gap from Suzuki. The 58,434 units from Royal Enfield is still a very lucrative number. Piaggio Vespa (including Aprilia) is the last mass-market brand with a four-digit sales number. They were good for 6221 units and all of them were scooters.
