BMW Unveils R 12 and R 12 nineT: Retro Charm Meets Modern Performance
BMW enthusiasts have reason to celebrate as the renowned German automaker introduces two new additions to its retro roadster lineup: the R 12 and R 12 nineT. These models, set to replace the R nineT, blend timeless design with contemporary performance, catering to riders seeking a nostalgic yet exhilarating experience on the road.
BMW R 12: Middleweight Cruiser
Positioned as a middleweight cruiser, the R 12 embodies classic styling coupled with modern engineering. The heart of this cruiser is a robust air/oil-cooled, 1,170cc horizontally opposed (boxer) twin engine, generating a spirited 95hp at 6,500rpm and a torque of 110Nm at 6,000rpm. A newly designed tubular bridge steel space frame provides a sturdy foundation, showcasing BMW's commitment to both aesthetics and functionality.
The R 12 boasts a cruiser-typical wheel configuration, featuring a 19-inch front rim and a 16-inch rear rim. The braking system surprises with its potency, featuring twin 310mm discs at the front with radially mounted 4-pot calipers and a 265mm rear disc with a 2-piston caliper. Notably, cornering ABS and traction control come standard, enhancing safety and control.
BMW R 12 nineT: Neo-Retro Roadster
The R 12 nineT, an updated version of the R nineT, represents a neo-retro roadster that combines classic aesthetics with contemporary performance enhancements. With a peak power of 109hp at 7,000rpm and peak torque of 115Nm, the R 12 nineT offers a dynamic and engaging riding experience. Weighing 1kg less than its predecessor, the R 12 nineT prioritizes agility and responsiveness.
A fully adjustable USD fork and paralever rear suspension contribute to the bike's smooth handling, catering to riders who appreciate a relaxed roadster feel. Electronic aids, including cornering ABS, traction control, and three riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic), ensure a well-rounded and secure riding experience.
