BMW India has introduced the i5 electric sedan to its lineup, with an introductory price of Rs 1.20 crore, ex-showroom, India. Positioned between the i4 and the i7, the i5 strengthens BMW's electric vehicle portfolio in India, which now boasts five models including the iX1 and iX xDrive50. This new addition arrives in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) in the high-end M60 xDrive configuration. Bookings for the i5 began on April 4.

The BMW i5 M60 xDrive features an 83.9kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP-certified range of 516km per charge. It powers dual electric motors, positioned on each axle delivering a total output of 601hp and 795Nm of torque. This setup enables the i5 to accelerate from 0-100kph in 3.8 seconds reaching a top speed of 230kph. BMW provides a complimentary 11kW wall charger, with an optional 22kW AC charger available for purchase. Additionally, the i5 supports up to 205kW DC fast charging, achieving a 10-80% charge in less than 30 minutes.
Design and Aesthetics of the BMW i5
The i5 M60 xDrive variant boasts sportier design elements compared to the standard model. It features the iconic kidney grille, illuminated and enclosed in high-gloss black, and slim headlights equipped with vertically stacked LED DRLs. Sporty accents include flush-fitting door handles, aggressive side skirts, and 20-inch alloys with premium tyres. The rear design mirrors that of the new 7 Series, with sleek LED tail-lamps separated by a chrome bar.
For the Indian market, the i5 is offered in a range of colors including Alpine White (non-metallic), and metallic shades such as M Brooklyn Grey, M Carbon Black, and several others.

Inside, the i5 is equipped with advanced technology including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, running the latest iDrive 8.5 OS with new gaming and video functions. In addition, the cabin has a recognizable center console design, ambient lighting with 15 colors, and opulent materials like available wood trim or carbon fiber.
The M60 variant includes M-specific enhancements like performance displays, a flat-bottom M leather-wrapped steering wheel, and sports seats available in Venganza or Alcantara with cooling function. A panoramic sunroof, 4-zone climate control, a Bowers & Wilkins music system, and an extensive 360-degree camera system are among the extra features.

BMW offers a standard 2-year/unlimited kilometre warranty for the i5, with an extended 8-year/1.6 lakh km warranty specifically for the battery, ensuring peace of mind for buyers investing in this premium electric sedan.
