KTM’s popularity and success in India are based on their value for money and a high-end feature proposition with the existing bikes in the market. And a recent rumour of a new range of 490cc bikes based on the modern parallel-twin platform is going around. These new models might storm the global market by the end of this year, as suggested by a presentation leak from Pierer Mobility (KTM’s parent company).
5 models are in the works as per the leaked presentation and the rumours are going around that it just might be the Duke, RC and an ADV 490 series. Whereas the information from the presentation suggests the motorcycles to be Enduro and SuperMoto based as far as the looks go. Speculation regarding their production being carried in India and then exporting to the global market is also in the air, just like the 390 series.
Apparently positioned above the 390 range, the upcoming 490 series has to be more powerful than the existing 390 series. Husqvarna could also adopt the same parallel-twin platform along with the lightweight trellis frame. The expected features they might offer with these bikes could be WP-sourced suspension, multiple ride modes, cornering ABS, traction control, coloured TFT instrument console, launch control etc and maybe they might even offer Bluetooth connectivity with the navigation system.
The good reception of the existing 125-390cc KTM bikes in the Indian market could be a pushing factor to bring the 490 series to India. But if they manufactured the bikes outside of India, then it gets tricky whether they will come to India. If yes, then will it cost more and how much more? We cannot answer all these questions at the moment based on just a leak and a pool of speculation, but hopefully, it will become more clear in the upcoming months.
