Following the recent unveiling of the updated MT-09, Yamaha has introduced the MT-09 SP a higher-spec version of its renowned triple-cylinder street naked bike and this new offering boasts several enhancements including revised styling, advanced electronics, and upgraded underpinnings making it a compelling choice for enthusiasts.
Elevated Track-Focused Electronics
The MT-09 SP inherits many of the enhancements introduced in the standard model with a sharper and more aggressive design language and improved ergonomics. Yamaha has equipped the SP version with the Brembo master cylinder enhancing braking performance. Furthermore, it features Brembo Stylema calipers at the front further elevating its braking capabilities.
Enhanced Suspension Setup
?The suspension has received significant upgrades, featuring fully adjustable units at both ends. At the front, riders benefit from a DLC-coated 41mm KYB fork with adjustable preload, rebound, and high- and low-speed compression damping. The rear suspension is no less impressive as the MT-09 SP is fitted with a fully adjustable Ohlins shock that includes a remote preload adjuster, ensuring optimal ride quality and control.
Advanced Riding Modes and Customization
?Yamaha has expanded the electronic rider aids with the introduction of additional riding modes. In addition to the standard Sport, Street, and Rain modes, the MT-09 SP now offers two custom Rider modes, allowing riders to tailor the bike's performance to their preferences. In addition, the SP version has four new Track modes meant to provide a more immersive track experience. These Track modes feature a dedicated theme on the 5-inch TFT display, complete with a prominent lap-timer. Riders can fine-tune the Engine Brake Management (EBM) and Brake Control (BC) through the customizable Track modes, offering greater control and precision on the track. Additionally, the MT-09 SP allows the disengagement of ABS at the rear wheel.
Keyless Smart Key System
?One notable innovation is the inclusion of Yamaha's Smart Key system, making the MT-09 SP the first MT model to feature this technology. The Smart Key system provides the convenience of keyless operation allowing riders to lock/unlock the handlebar and fuel filler and start the motorcycle without needing a physical key.
While the standard MT-09 was previously available in India but had to be withdrawn due to BS6 emissions norms, Yamaha has expressed interest in reintroducing it to the Indian market, now that it complies with the latest regulations. However, it remains to be seen whether the top-spec MT-09 SP version will also make its way to India, offering local riders a taste of its enhanced performance and features.
