2024 Kia Clavis SUV Spotted Again

Car manufacturers such as Maruti, Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Mahindra have ventured into the sub-4-meter compact UV segment, a strategic move considering the projected growth in this market. Kia, joining the fray, aims to make a strong impact with its upcoming Clavis SUV, marking its third SUV offering following the Seltos and Sonet.

Distinctive Design and Styling of the Kia Clavis

While existing sub-compact SUVs boast appealing profiles, Kia recognizes the need for a unique and attention-grabbing design, particularly with its existing Sonet model already in the lineup. The answer to this demand is the Clavis, internally known as AY, set to make its debut in India later this year. Kia has already secured the trademark for the Clavis name in India.

The upcoming Kia Clavis stands out with its tall and boxy profile, sporting a rugged design characterized by tank-like sheet metal formations. Key design elements include a prominent grille, vertically positioned headlamps and DRLs, a robust clamshell bonnet, polygonal wheel arches, substantial body cladding, sporty 17-inch alloy wheels, flush-type door handles, and practical roof rails. The rear features a full-width LED light bar, mirroring the design cues seen at the front. Recent spy shots of the Clavis provide a detailed view of both the front and rear profiles showcasing its road presence.

Feature-Rich Offerings

Test mule sightings have revealed that the Kia Clavis will boast a comprehensive range of premium features. The dual 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and instrument display, the panoramic sunroof, the front and back ventilated seats, the 360° surround-view camera, and the twelve parking sensors are some of the standout features.

The SUV will come equipped with USB charging ports, rear AC vents, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, and a foldable central armrest. Safety features will include six airbags and all-wheel disc brakes. Top-spec variants of the Kia Clavis are expected to be equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Market Outlook for the Kia Clavis

With rising household incomes, a significant portion of customers is anticipated to transition from entry-level hatchbacks to sub-compact SUVs in the future. This trend bodes well for existing sub-compact SUVs and upcoming options like the Kia Clavis. Skoda also plans to tap into this market segment by launching its sub-4m SUV in 2025.

Positioned between the Sonet and Seltos, the Kia Clavis will offer both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) variants. ICE variants may feature the 120 PS, 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine with transmission choices including a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT. The Clavis EV could offer a range of around 350 to 400 km. Kia aims to target both domestic and export markets with the new SUV, with plans to achieve an annual production volume of around 1 lakh units, with ICE variants expected to account for about 80% of sales.
