2023 Mahindra Thar Introduces Exciting Colors

In the upcoming year, Mahindra's Thar is set to offer a fresh array of color choices. The 2WD Thar variant, expected to launch soon, has been spotted sporting an appealing Bronze shade. This new color might also be made available for the 4WD version. Additionally, the 2WD Thar will come with a smaller 118PS 1.5-liter diesel engine, complementing the existing 150PS 2-liter turbo-petrol engine. Transmission options will continue to include a six-speed manual and automatic. The expected price range for this variant starts from approximately Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).

Currently, the Thar is available in six distinct shades: Aqua Marine, Galaxy Grey, Rocky Beige, Mystic Copper, Red Rage, and Napoli Black. These existing colors are expected to be retained for the 2WD version, with the new bronze shade being an exciting addition. There are also rumors that Mahindra might introduce a white color variant for the Thar.

Mahindra is making a significant change under the Thar's hood for the 4X2 variant, swapping the 4X4’s 2.2-liter unit with a revised version of the XUV300’s 1.5-liter diesel engine. ?However, the 2WD Thar will continue to retain the 4WD’s 150PS 2-liter turbo-petrol engine, maintaining performance standards. Even though the 2WD Thar won't feature a low range gearbox, it will offer the optional mechanical locking differential (MLD), similar to the 4X4 diesel Thar. The 2WD Thar is expected to come in both AX (O) and LX trims, available in hardtop and soft top configurations.

Anticipated to be priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom), the 2WD Thar's higher-end variant is projected to align with the 4X4’s entry-level AX (O) trim. This move positions the less capable Thar to compete effectively with the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The Jimny, expected to offer both 2WD and 4WD options in a five-door variant, will likely encounter strong competition from Mahindra's Thar. Furthermore, Mahindra is also in the process of developing a five-door version of the Thar, although it will surpass the four-meter length mark, making it distinct from the smaller Jimny.

While the 2WD Thar won't have a low range gearbox, an optional mechanical locking differential (MLD) will be available, similar to the 4X4 diesel Thar.
