14 Cars Discontinued in India Because of BS6 Phase II - Report

Now that BS6 Phase II is in force, along with RDE standards and E20 compatibility, the powertrain and automobiles that are no longer viable in this phase have been phased out. These are the vehicles that were phased out as of April 1, 2023. Here is the complete list -

  1. Skoda Superb
  2. Skoda Octavia
  3. Honda City 4th Gen
  4. Honda City 5th Gen Diesel
  5. Honda WR-V
  6. Honda Jazz
  7. Honda Amaze Diesel
  8. Renault KWID 800
  9. Nissan Kicks
  10. Maruti Alto 800
  11. Mahindra KUV100
  12. Hyundai Verna Diesel
  13. Hyundai i20 Diesel
  14. Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol

The Japanese automaker Honda has the most to lose. The Jazz, City 4th-gen and WR-V crossover are no longer available. Honda has also discontinued diesel powertrains in the City 5th-gen and Amaze.

Diesel's popularity has recently declined, particularly in the subcompact hatchback and sedan segments. The Hyundai i20 is no stranger to this, having lost its 1.5L diesel engine choice. Tata Altroz, its arch-rival, was meant to follow suit but has instead kept its diesel. It is now the only premium hatchback with a diesel engine. The new-gen Verna does not have a diesel engine option, thus ending the Verna diesel in India.

Sedans are not going away, but sadly, the Skoda Octavia and Superb have been discontinued in India. They are allegedly fitted with an EA888 evo3 DQ381-7F powerplant that does not fulfil RDE standards. This is a 2.0L TSI petrol engine with an FWD design. The EA888 evo4 DQ381-7A AWD powertrain seen in Kodiaq, Tiguan, and select Audis will be retained.

Nissan Kicks has followed in the footsteps of its French cousin Renault Captur. It was available with either a 1.5-litre petrol engine or a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine. After more than seven years on the market, the Mahindra KUV100 has been phased out of the Indian market. The Innova Crysta has been refreshed and relaunched in the country. While it is back, its 2.7L petrol engine has been replaced by a single 2.4L diesel.

BS6 phase II will go down in history as the demise of 800cc engines in India. Especially the Alto 800's four-decade-old F8D 3-cylinder engine. Renault's 3-cylinder 800cc engine on the Kwid will be phased out in favour of a 1000cc alternative.
