About
The 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer Diesel is a stylish and feature-rich sedan that was introduced in the Indian market through a joint venture with Hindustan Motors. Available in both petrol and diesel variants, the diesel model comes with a 1998cc engine producing 85.8 bhp and 132.3 Nm of torque. The car is known for its comfortable ride and decent handling, particularly with the sport-tuned suspension in the higher GT trim. It features advanced amenities such as automatic climate control, a color driver information display, Bluetooth, and a four-speaker sound system. However, the cars age shows in its refinement and ergonomic issues, such as coarse engine noises and mediocre interior materials. Despite these, the Lancer remains a solid option for those seeking a blend of style, comfort, and performance in the mid-segment sedan market.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer Diesel, while stylish and packed with advanced features, has its share of drawbacks that potential buyers should consider. The diesel engine, though reliable, lacks the power one might expect, and the maintenance costs can be higher than average. The cars interior materials and refinement are also subpar compared to its competitors. However, it does offer a comfortable ride and decent handling, especially with the sport-tuned suspension in higher trims. If you prioritize a balance of class and performance, and are willing to overlook some of the engines shortcomings, the Lancer could be a viable option. Yet, for many, the higher maintenance and lower mileage might make other models in the segment more appealing.
Price
In India, the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer Diesel was priced competitively, with ex-showroom prices ranging from Rs 7.33 lakhs to Rs 8.13 lakhs. However, when considering the on-road price, you can expect to add another Rs 1-2 lakhs depending on the state and local taxes, bringing the total to around Rs 8.33 lakhs to Rs 10.13 lakhs. This pricing is competitive within its segment, but its crucial to weigh this against the cars overall value, including its performance, fuel efficiency, and maintenance costs. Given the current market and the cars age, you might find better deals on used models, but for a new purchase, these prices were the benchmark.
Latest Updates
Tuesday, 10 November 2015 12:11 PM
The 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer was available in the market from late October 2015. However, its availability in India was limited, and it did not include a diesel engine option. I believe this limited its potential in the Indian market.
Sunday, 01 November 2015 11:13 PM
Mitsubishi offers a comprehensive warranty package for the 2016 Lancer, including a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. This provides long-term peace of mind for buyers. I think this is a strong selling point for the Lancer.
Sunday, 25 October 2015 08:43 AM
The 2016 Mitsubishi Lancers fuel economy is not particularly impressive, with the front-wheel-drive ES model managing 24 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel-drive models see slight improvements but still fall short of competitors. I believe better fuel economy would make the Lancer more attractive.
Wednesday, 21 October 2015 12:32 AM
The base model of the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer, the ES, starts at $17,595 (approximately Rs. 1,300,000 at the time, considering exchange rates), making it a value-for-money option in the compact sedan segment. However, the lack of a diesel engine option might limit its appeal in markets like India. I think the pricing is competitive, but the absence of a diesel variant is a missed opportunity.
Thursday, 15 October 2015 10:34 AM
Despite the updates, the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer remains one of the older models in the compact sedan segment, which affects its market appeal. The Lancers sales have been overshadowed by competitors like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. I believe Mitsubishi needs more significant updates to regain market share.
Tuesday, 06 October 2015 11:04 AM
The 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer saw the introduction of a revised continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) aimed at improving fuel economy and performance. However, the diesel engine option was not a part of this lineup. The CVT is now available across all trim levels, including the ES, SE, SEL, and GT. I think this CVT update is crucial for better drivability.
Tuesday, 06 October 2015 10:12 PM
Mitsubishi discontinued the turbocharged Ralliart model and the high-performance Lancer Evolution for the 2016 model year. This move marks a shift away from performance-oriented models to more practical and feature-rich trim levels. I believe this decision reflects the changing market preferences.
Tuesday, 06 October 2015 06:48 PM
The 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer features updated interior elements, including a redesigned center console, new seat fabrics, and a gloss-black trim. These changes aim to improve the interior ambiance, although the overall quality still lags behind competitors. I think these updates are a good start but more is needed.
Wednesday, 30 September 2015 11:55 PM
The 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer introduced a new SEL trim level, which includes features like leather seats, rain-sensing wipers, and auto on/off headlights. This addition aims to enhance the value and appeal of the Lancer. I think this move is a step in the right direction to compete with other compact sedans.
Wednesday, 30 September 2015 10:47 AM
For 2016, the Mitsubishi Lancer received a redesigned front fascia with LED running lights, a new chrome beltline trim, and updated alloy wheels. These changes give the Lancer a more refined and less aggressive look. I believe these updates help the Lancer look more contemporary.
Mileage
Friday, 22 November 2024 11:21 AM
The mileage of the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer Diesel is a significant factor to consider. With an ARAI-certified mileage of 14.8 kmpl for the manual diesel variant, it is on the lower side compared to some of its competitors. In real-world conditions, you can expect around 12-13 kmpl, which may not be the most economical option for those looking to minimize running costs. However, if you prioritize the cars other attributes and can manage the slightly lower fuel efficiency, it might still be a good choice.

no proper dealer net work, Service centers, No spare parts,
Mitsubishi can introduce more models. If we get Spare parts that is also fine. i am using lancer for the past 10 years. Awesome car. but now its very difficult to get even Filters of the oil change.
really nice look and power, sure its gonna rock but when will it be release, longing to get one
My god.. wat have they done... i still love the old lancer Design.... new lancer is not as good as old one..
M-Lancer is very good car. Here the main problem is with the marketing. Now it is marketed by HM(they don't know how to market their cars).Any way lancer new model is good looking. As far as the engine is concerned, the lancer out perform the other cars. But in india the main issue is the is given that 12kmpl in this new model.anyway iam having one lancer old model.
Mitsubishi Lancer is a nice car, very good, Baldev Satwant Bhambra says
Masculine look! But Marketing team has to be aggressive. Mitsubishi has to come out from the collaboration with HM.
