Hyundai Verna Diesel SX (Old Model)

About
The Hyundai Verna Diesel SX from the 2011-2015 model years is powered by a 1.6L CRDi diesel engine, producing 126 bhp at 4000 rpm and 260 Nm of torque at 1900 rpm. This engine is mated to a smooth 6-speed manual gearbox. The car boasts a fluidic design language, which gives it a robust and stylish appearance. Inside, the cabin is quiet and comfortable, with features like height-adjustable seat belts, map lights, and a neatly integrated wiper wash system. The car also offers ample trunk space and comfortable seating, although the rear seats could benefit from better under-thigh support. The suspension is well-tuned, absorbing bumps and potholes effectively, making it a comfortable ride for both city and highway driving. Overall, the Verna Diesel SX is a well-rounded package that combines performance, comfort, and value for money.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Hyundai Verna Diesel SX, particularly the old model from the 2011-2015 era, is a solid choice for those seeking a blend of style, comfort, and performance. The Fluidic design of the Verna makes it a head-turner, with well-defined contours that appeal to the eye. The 1.6L CRDi engine delivers excellent power and torque, making it a joy to drive on both city roads and highways. However, there are some drawbacks, such as the slight body roll during high-speed turns and the lack of certain features like a sunroof and auto-up function for the drivers side window. Despite these, the smooth steering, good suspension, and quiet cabin make it a great option for daily driving.
Price
When the Hyundai Verna Diesel SX was launched in the 2011-2015 period, the ex-showroom price in India was around Rs. 9-10 lakhs, depending on the city. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, typically ranged from Rs. 10.30 to Rs. 11 lakhs. For instance, in Kolkata, the on-road price was approximately Rs. 10.30 lakhs. This pricing made the Verna a competitive offering in the sedan segment, balancing features and performance against cost. The value for money was a significant selling point, especially considering the additional features and the robust build quality.
Latest Updates
Wednesday, 15 March 2023 10:50 AM Hyundai has decided to discontinue the diesel variants of the Verna, including the Diesel SX model, due to the increasing demand for petrol engines and the rising costs associated with BS VI 2.0 emission norms. This move is part of Hyundais strategy to focus more on petrol and hybrid options. I think this is a smart move given the current market trends.
Monday, 20 February 2023 02:01 PM Following the discontinuation of diesel variants, Hyundai has announced a price hike for the remaining petrol variants of the Verna. This price adjustment is due to increased production costs and market conditions. The price hike affects all the remaining models, although the exact impact on the old Diesel SX model is now moot. I believe this price hike will be a temporary setback for buyers.
Thursday, 26 January 2023 12:02 AM The last batch of the Hyundai Verna Diesel SX has been sold out in the Indian market. This marks the end of an era for the diesel-powered variant, which was known for its fuel efficiency and performance. Buyers who missed out on this model will now have to consider the petrol variants or other diesel sedans in the market. I think the Verna Diesel SX will be remembered fondly by its owners.
Saturday, 10 December 2022 11:41 PM Before its discontinuation, the Hyundai Verna Diesel SX received some minor updates, including new interior trim options and enhanced infotainment features. These updates were aimed at keeping the model competitive until its eventual phase-out. I believe these updates were a nice touch, even if they were short-lived.
Tuesday, 15 November 2022 06:38 AM As news of the Verna Diesel SXs discontinuation spread, there was a surge in demand for this model. Many buyers rushed to purchase the diesel variant before it was too late, leading to a temporary shortage in some regions. I think this increased demand is a testament to the models popularity.
Thursday, 20 October 2022 11:52 PM Hyundai announced that it would be ending the production of the Verna Diesel SX model due to declining demand for diesel engines and the upcoming stricter emission norms. This decision marked a significant shift in Hyundais product lineup in India. I believe this move aligns with the industrys broader trend towards petrol and hybrid vehicles.
Monday, 15 August 2022 11:00 PM In an effort to keep the model fresh, Hyundai introduced new colour options for the Verna Diesel SX. These new colours included shades like Fiery Red and Tellurian Brown, which were well-received by buyers. I think these new colours added a bit of excitement to the model.
Friday, 10 June 2022 12:06 PM Hyundai updated the Verna Diesel SX with additional safety features, including more airbags and enhanced crash protection. This move was part of Hyundais commitment to improving safety across its vehicle lineup. I think these upgrades were a welcome addition for safety-conscious buyers.
Wednesday, 20 April 2022 07:51 AM The mid-size sedan segment saw new entrants like the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia, which posed significant competition to the Verna Diesel SX. Despite its strong reputation, the Verna faced challenges in maintaining its market share. I believe the competition pushed Hyundai to innovate and improve their offerings.
Saturday, 26 February 2022 01:08 AM The Verna Diesel SX remained a favorite among buyers looking for strong fuel efficiency. With a certified mileage of 24.8 kmpl, it was one of the most fuel-efficient sedans in its class. I think its fuel efficiency was a major selling point for this model.
Mileage
Friday, 22 November 2024 01:58 PM The Hyundai Verna Diesel SX is known for its commendable fuel economy. In city driving conditions, owners have reported an average mileage of around 15 kmpl, while on highways, it can achieve up to 18-19 kmpl. This makes it an economical choice for both urban and long-distance driving. The ARAI-certified mileage is 22.32 kmpl, though real-world figures may vary slightly based on driving habits and conditions.
