General information and overview

The Ford Figo stands out in India as a compact hatchback blending fun dynamics with practicality, powered by the punchy 1.2L Ti-VCT petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual for linear throttle response and quick overtakes, complemented by precise steering, low center of gravity, and suspension tuned for absorbent ride over potholes while maintaining cornering grip. Its cabin offers good front and rear space for three adults, classy fit-finish, and easy maneuverability in urban chaos, though NVH could be better for family hauls. Safety includes dual airbags and ABS basics in higher trims, with robust build aiding high-speed stability. For Indian buyers, it's a reliable, engaging daily driver with low maintenance if serviced regularly, outperforming softer competitors in driver involvement and resale value in the used segment, ticking essentials for city-highway versatility without excess features.

The Ford Figo shines in India as a driver's hatchback with best-in-class 1.2L Ti-VCT petrol and 1.5L TDCi diesel engines offering punchy power, sweet exhaust, and reliable torque mated to slick 5-speed manuals, paired with suspension tuned for Indian roads—struts and anti-roll bars upfront for sharp handling, soft rears for bump absorption, and low CoG for planted high-speed stability. I love its engaging dynamics, spacious cabin seating five comfortably with good rear knee/headroom for adults, classy fit-finish, and robust build that withstands 14+ years. Safety includes 6 airbags, ABS-EBD in tops, though it skips projector lamps and smartphone mirroring. NVH is a cabin noise drawback, fixable post-purchase, and rear headroom limits tall drivers slightly, but overall, it's fun, efficient (22+ kmpl diesel), and value-packed for families or solos wanting excitement under ₹6 lakh used—perfect buy for joy without fuss.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the Ford Figo to be a compelling choice for Indian buyers seeking a driver's hatchback that excels in city commutes and spirited drives, with its rock-solid handling from the strut front suspension, anti-roll bars, and semi-independent rear setup ensuring planted stability even in fast corners and minimal body roll. The 1.2L Ti-VCT petrol engine delivers robust power and torque through a slick 5-speed manual, making it engaging without feeling underpowered, while the ride quality absorbs urban bumps effectively for confident everyday use. Though NVH levels let engine and road noise intrude somewhat, this is a minor trade-off for solo drivers or those adding aftermarket soundproofing, and its compact size shines for tight parking and traffic weaving. After reviewing countless similar models, I recommend it strongly for pre-owned buyers in 2025 prioritizing fun-to-drive dynamics over outright refinement, as it sticks to essentials without frills yet outperforms rivals like Maruti Swift in chassis feel and high-speed composure, making it a smart, no-nonsense pick for cost-conscious enthusiasts who value reliability and low ownership hassles over long-term Ford presence in India.

I find the Ford Figo a standout choice for driving enthusiasts in India seeking fun without compromise, thanks to its rock-solid handling from the strut front suspension with anti-roll bars and soft rear shocks that absorb tiny bumps effortlessly while delivering planted cornering stability even at high speeds. The 1.2L Ti-VCT petrol engine packs impressive power and torque with a 5-speed manual, making it spirited and engaging, while the 1.5L TDCi diesel offers reliable punch for highway runs like the Samruddhi Mahamarg where it excels in control and efficiency. Ride quality suits Indian roads perfectly, feeling confidence-inspiring and mature, though NVH levels let engine and road noise intrude, which I mitigate with aftermarket sound deadening for family use. Space impresses with excellent front and rear seating for three mid-sized adults, good knee room, and a classy fit-finish that punches above its weight. After 14 years of ownership, its low CoG, aerodynamic design, and structural rigidity keep it joyful to drive, with minimal issues beyond eventual suspension refresh. In 2025, despite Ford's exit, parts availability remains strong via service networks, making it a smart buy for budget-conscious buyers prioritizing dynamics over gadgets—ideal if you value engagement over silence or premium features missing like Apple CarPlay.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

Ford has no plans to bring back the Figo, EcoSport, or Aspire to the Indian market. The company has decided to focus only on T6 platform products, such as the Everest SUV and the Ranger pickup truck, due to the financial unviability of producing smaller combustion-engine models in India. This decision follows the sale of Fords Sanand facility to Tata Motors and the closure of their Maraimalai Nagar facility.
May 7, 2024
The Ford Figo, although discontinued in India, remains a popular choice in other markets. In South Africa, for instance, the 2021 Ford Figo is still sought after for its practicality and affordability. It comes in variants like Ambiente, Trend, and Titanium, each offering different levels of features and safety options. I think its enduring popularity highlights the need for compact, reliable cars in various markets.
May 1, 2024
The Ford Figo features a sporty and complex design with a glossy front grille, sharp headlamps, and sculpted lines. Inside, the cabin is thoughtfully designed to maximize space and comfort, with well-cushioned seats and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. I think the blend of style and functionality makes it a great option for daily commuters.
September 9, 2023
Ford India had previously rolled out attractive offers for the Ford Figo, including cash reductions, exchange bonuses, and low-interest financing options. These offers made the Figo a compelling choice in the competitive hatchback segment, especially during festive seasons. I believe such offers can significantly boost sales and customer satisfaction.
September 9, 2023
The Ford Figo is powered by a 1.2-liter Ti-VCT petrol engine and a 1.5-liter TDCi diesel engine, both known for their responsiveness and fuel efficiency. The petrol model offers around 18.5 km/l, while the diesel version delivers approximately 24.4 km/l. The suspension is tuned for Indian roads, providing a comfortable ride even on rough surfaces.

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Ford Figo remains a value proposition primarily in the pre-owned market since Ford's exit, with 2025 listings for well-maintained 1.2L petrol Titanium variants typically ranging from ₹4.5 lakh to ₹6.5 lakh ex-showroom equivalent based on age and mileage, though actual ex-showroom tags from its last official run hovered around ₹5.5-7.75 lakh for top automatics before discontinuation. On-road prices for used units in major cities like Delhi or Mumbai add 10-15% via RTO, insurance, and fastag—pushing totals to ₹5.2-7.8 lakh—factoring in emissions compliance and state taxes that vary slightly, such as higher green cess in Maharashtra. I see this as a steal compared to newer rivals like Tata Altroz or Hyundai i10 Nios starting at ₹7-9 lakh on-road, offering superior handling and engine character at half the depreciation hit; buyers save significantly on running costs too, with minimal rust risks if undercoated properly, making it an astute buy for budget-savvy families eyeing premium driving traits without premium pricing, especially as potential 2025 comebacks remain speculative.
December 14, 2025
In India, the Ford Figo holds strong value in the used market as Ford exited officially, with 2025 ex-showroom prices for newer stock or relisted variants starting around ₹5.5 lakh for base petrol manuals up to ₹8.5 lakh for Titanium diesel tops, though most transactions occur via platforms like Spinny for certified pre-owned units averaging ₹3-6 lakh depending on year, mileage, and condition—petrol 2015-2020 models at ₹3.5-4.5 lakh, diesels ₹4-6 lakh for low-km examples. On-road prices historically added 10-15% in metros like Delhi (₹6.5-10 lakh new equivalent) covering RTO, insurance, and FASTag, but today buyers save via used deals dodging high registration fees amid falling resale dips post-exit. I see this as a bargain for its segment-best fun-to-drive nature; at these rates, it undercuts rivals like Swift or Grand i10 Nios while offering punchy engines and safety like 6 airbags in top trims, making running costs low with economical maintenance undercutting Hyundai/Maruti long-term. Opt for certified used to avoid part scarcity fears—genuine savings make it a no-brainer for first-time buyers eyeing ₹4 lakh all-in for a reliable, spacious hatch that feels premium without the premium tag.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

I rate the Ford Figo's 1.2L petrol at 18-20 kmpl real-world in mixed Indian conditions, dropping to 15-16 kmpl in city traffic but stretching to 22 kmpl on highways with steady driving, keeping running costs under ₹6/km on current fuel rates—ideal for high-mileage users versus thirstier rivals, aiding smart buying on fuel budgets.
December 14, 2025
I rate the Figo's mileage highly for India, with the 1.2L petrol delivering 18-22 kmpl city-highway mixed and diesel 1.5L TDCi pushing 23-25 kmpl real-world, often hitting 22 kmpl with AC on long drives like Samruddhi Mahamarg. Low running costs beat rivals, making it ideal if fuel bills concern you—buy diesel for highways, petrol for city fun without wallet worry.

Professional reviews and expert opinions on Ford Figo

Ford has finally launched the much awaited Figo hatchback in the country. Imagining the car is very easy for those who have experienced the newly launched Figo Aspire as removing that tiny boot from the compact sedan results in a fresh new hatchback, the Figo. The car shares its design as well as mechanical components with the sedan version and comes in a number of options over other cars in the segment.

Exterior

Ford has installed the same iconic front grill which it uses in most of its Indian as well as international offerings. The 4-lined grill looks futuristic and perfectly matches the design of the front bumper. Side profile is a bit common as the rear ends very smoothly, providing an option for those who are against the sudden ending of a compact sedan's boot. Overall curves are attractive and Figo gets a restricted use of chrome on its body elements. Truly saying, if front is 10/10; the rear is actually 6 in front of that. The aggression from the front changes smoothly into a cute little back design.

Interior

The interior of the car is shared with its elder Ford members like EcoSport and Figo Aspire. The basic difference has been kept in shades, providing a full black interior with silver inserts to the hatchback whereas others have a dual tone finish for the same. Ford provides the passengers with ample space and relaxed seating arrangement. The car is a full utility in itself as it merely misses a function hen considered from the technological point of view. The car gets the famous Ford Applink system with a 4.2 inch MFD.

Instrument Console

Figo gets the same 3 pod instrument console as the sedan counterpart. The center pod gets the analogue speedometer with a small LED inside it. The screen contains the odometer, trip-meter and other mileage essentials. The right pod gets the fuel and temperature indicator whereas the left is for an analogue tachometer. The use of clean white needles for all the indications look classy and attractive.

Engine & Gearbox

Ford powers the new hatch with three different engine options. India's new favourite and most selling Figo variant would be the 1498 cc, 4-cylinder diesel motor producing 98.6 BHP @ 3750 rpm and 215 NM @ 1750-3000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The wide rpm band for the maximum torque provides the car with excellent push while overtaking and results in effortless riding in the hilly regions also. This motor has the maximum displacement in when compared to other in its segment.

The second one is an efficiency focused 1196 cc petrol motor. It produces 86.8 BHP @ 6300 rpm and 112 NM @ 4000 rpm. It gets a 5-speed manual unit and gets competitive values on its chart.

The most impressive engine comes out to be the 1499 cc, 4-cylinder petrol motor. The powerhouse produces 110.5 BHP @ 6300 rpm and 136 NM @ 4250 rpm. The values become more impressive when the driver gets a 6-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox for the transmission duties. The car becomes the first hatchback to get the same at such a competitive price tag.

Mileage

Ford has made the Figo with an intention to win as its 1.5 L diesel motor returns a claimed mileage of 25.83 kmpl. This makes it better than many of the competitors as the engine displacement is matching to the sizes of full size sedans of India. On the other hand, 1.2 L petrol motor returns 18.16 kmpl and the most powerful 1.5 L petrol variant comes with 17 kmpl. Petrol variants have a 42 liter fuel tank whereas the diesel variants have a 40 liter tank.

Braking & Suspension

The Figo comes with disc brakes for the front wheels whereas the rear ones are halted by drum brakes only. 175/65-R14 wheels are used on all the variants and Figo gets an excellent set of alloy wheels for the higher trims. The suspension on the front is an independent McPherson strut with coil spring and anti-roll bar whereas the rear uses a semi-independent twist beam with twin gas and oil filled shock absorbers.

Comfort & Safety

The car gets a very comfortable interior with loads of features for everyday use. MyFord dock at the front provides easy accessibility by holding your smart-phone in a very useful position. Figo gets a fully automatic air conditioning system with a very nice finishing and dials. The option of steering mounted controls further enhances the riding experience whereas the power folding ORVM's adds up a class to the car. The 12v power socket provides all time power to your devices and the driver seat height adjustments fills every ride with pleasure and fun. The car also gets options like guide me home headlamps and all power windows.

Being at the top in comfort does not end the winning streak as it performs the same in safety section. The car gets first in-class 6 airbags, which includes side and curtain airbags. This puts many of the premium offering to shame as most of them end up with a small number of airbags. Figo also gets ABS with EBD and provides safe entry into the car through the Ford MyKey. The car comes with height adjustable seat belts for the front and 3 point seat belts for all the passengers.

Shades & Variants

Figo comes with a colourful approach, bringing Tuxedo Black, Deep Impact Blue, Smoke Grey, Ruby Red, Ingot Silver, Sparkling Gold and Oxford White as its available shades.

The car has been divided into different classes named Base, Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium Plus. All the classes have a petrol as well as diesel variant except the Titanium class. It gets 3 variants including the automatic petrol motor option.

Price

The highly loaded hatchback comes with a starting price of INR 4,29,900 for the base petrol variant whereas the diesel variant starts at INR 5,29,900. The automatic dual clutch variant has a price tag of INR 6,91,600. These prices have been indicated as introductory by Ford India.

i am using the car for 4 years. best in class space, , boot space, AC, very good mileage 17 to 18 kmpl in city and 22 to 23 in highways , solid built, very good stability at highways and very good braking at high speeds. overall value for money. maintenance also less than swift ,ritz ,i20, polo. No other car can match figo in that price range.

Its is an average car. Some parameters are still missing which are essential now days. I mean climate control useful for long trips. Not convinced with the ground clearance as well. If these problems solved this be the segment leader.

V
Vishal11 years agoAnonymous

It could have been a better car if it had a ground clearance of 172 mm or 175mm. Also no climate control even in the top end version. If these two thing are solved then for sure this will be the segment leader.

Its powerful But the Mileage sucks (petrol) , low ground clearance and the front mud flaps are a pain in the ass. I wouldn't like to own it even if it was gifted to me.
