Stick with a period correct modification style. If you have a 90s Celica, deck it out in full late 90s tuner style, like. It'll be a nostalgia hit.

Interior mods are underrated. People will be more impressed by a fully custom interior with nice materials and killer audio setup than by another body kit.
Is the Toyota Celica a good car for a new driver?
30 December 2024 11:00
Absolutely! My first car was a 6th gen Celica and it was perfect. Not too sporty where it would be fun, but not so powerful that I would get into trouble. Surprisingly practical, too, was the hatchback.

I would not recommend it too strongly. Parts for older Celicas are getting harder to find but they are reliable. Something a Corolla or Civic might be a better starter car and cheaper/easier maintenance.
Is the Toyota Celica a good car for a new driver?

Well it’s going to depend on the Celica and the driver. If you’re going to buy a GT model, make sure it’s in good shape, but I wouldn’t buy the higher powered GT-S for a new driver. It may be too tempting to speed.

I think it’s an awesome first car choice. The community around Celicas is super helpful for learning basic maintenance and it teaches you how to handle a more responsive vehicle.
Is the Toyota Celica a good car for a new driver?
30 December 2024 11:00
Personally, I'd say no. For new drivers, something more forgiving is where to focus learning. Someone who’s just beginning to learn how to drive might find the Celica’s sportier handling and lack of visibility a bit much.

The 90s cars don't get enough love. The All-Trac Turbo was a great 90s style car that had a great balance between that and performance.
The most underrated generation of Toyota Celica?

I think the 6th gen (1994-1999) is underrated. The 5th gen design was refined, and had some solid engine options. And it’s also getting into the classic territory now.
The most underrated generation of Toyota Celica?

The 3rd gen (1981-1985) is forgotten, but it had some really cool 80s boxy style. Back then, the Supra was still part of the Celica line as well!
The most underrated generation of Toyota Celica?

I honestly believe the last 7th gen is underrated. They moan about the lack of turbo or AWD options, but the 2ZZ engine made for a great handling car.

2nd gen (1977 – 1981) deserves more recognition. It was that classic 70s sports car look and part of Toyota's early push into performance cars in the US market.

Boring Camrys last forever. The owners of less exciting cars tend to drive them more gently and also tend to maintain them better.
Why do Toyota Camrys appear to never break down?
30 December 2024 10:48
I think a little bit of it is engineering and a little bit of it is the fact that the people who buy Camrys tend to take good care of their cars. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy.
Why do Toyota Camrys appear to never break down?
30 December 2024 10:48
I think Toyota makes them less exciting on purpose, so people won't drive them hard. Longer life is achieved with less stress on the components.

Most Toyotas last a long time, it's not just Camrys. They don’t care about cutting edge features, but reliability, so there are fewer things that can go wrong.
Why do Toyota Camrys appear to never break down?
30 December 2024 10:48
They don’t last longer than other well maintained cars, I don’t think. The thing is, there are so many Camrys out there, you see the old ones more.
