Which bike is better for Urban Adventures, the Yamaha BW’s 125 or the Honda ADV150?

The BW's 125 was for pure fun factor. The result is playful and encourages you to explore urban nooks and crannies. The ADV150 is great, but it’s almost too serious sometimes.

Urban adventurers need storage space, and the ADV150 offers a lot more under seat storage. And that's big plus for day trips or grocery runs.
Which bike is better for Urban Adventures, the Yamaha BW’s 125 or the Honda ADV150?

The BW's 125, I think, does a better job of capturing the urban adventure. The ADV150 feels like it’s trying too hard to be a ‘real’ adventure bike, while the ADV feels like a scrappy underdog punching above its own weight class.

I saw a BW's 125 with monster truck style tires once. It was ridiculous, but also kind of awesome. I have no idea how it actually rode though!

A guy in my city took his BWs and turned it into a mini food truck. He put a small grill in the back, and now sells hot dogs from it. Crazy but creative!

I have seen one that is fully wrapped Louis Vuitton. Talk about a fancy scooter! I don’t know if it was real LV or fake, but it was definitely a head turner.

The wildest mod I ever saw was a BW with a side car made out of an old bathtub. And not just for show, it was fully functional.

There was someone in my scooter group that put a huge spoiler on their BW's like you'd see on a tuner car. Useless as hell, but hilarious.

I once had a BW that was converted to electric power. Super silent and actually pretty cool, but definitely not what Yamaha intended!

I saw a BW's with a custom stretched frame, and that was the craziest mod I've seen. It looked more like a mini chopper scooter hybrid. Impractical as hell, but it’s definitely unique.
Is the Yamaha BW's 125 an 'adventure scooter' at all?
10 January 2025 07:37
No, it’s not a dirt bike by any means, but it’s definitely more capable off road than your average scooter. The chunky tires and decent suspension help on gravel and light trails, but you wouldn’t want to take this thing on any serious off road adventures.

I’ve used mine on some pretty gnarly fire roads and it handled surprisingly well! The key here is managing your expectations. It won't take on hardcore single track, but for light off road exploring it's a blast.

It's all marketing BS. It's a city commuter with some ruggedly styled cues. Take it on a real trail, and you'll be calling for a tow truck before long.

I think it hits a good balance. The adventure styling isn’t just for show, but it’s not a hardcore off roader. Featuring a higher ground clearance and beefier suspension than your average scooter, it's better equipped for mixed terrain riding than most other electric scooters.

It’s what you make of it. Certainly it won’t be winning the Dakar rally, but for urban exploration and light trail riding the BW’s 125 opens up a lot of possibilities that other scooters can’t.

Being someone who has owned dirt bikes and scooters, I think the BW 125’s are a great way to get into adventure lite. More off road than you may think but know its limits. It’s the perfect bike for mixed surface riding and a little dirty without going full ADV bike.
Is the Yamaha BW's 125 an 'adventure scooter' at all?

Yamaha's marketing problem is that they create unrealistic expectations. Sure, it’s more capable than a Vespa off road, but ‘adventure scooter’ is a stretch. It's just a city scooter with a bit of added versatility.
Is the Yamaha BW's 125 an 'adventure scooter' at all?

I’ve taken mine on some pretty epic day trips, with plenty of highway, backroads, and even some light trails. It’s not going to win any off road races but for exploring and light adventure touring, it’s a fun and capable little machine.
Why does BW have the 125's headlight design so funky?
10 January 2025 07:37
I love the bug-eye look! The BW's has so much character and makes it stand out from all other boring scooters. It's become iconic for the model, plus.
Why does BW have the 125's headlight design so funky?
10 January 2025 07:37
I honestly find it ridiculous. I’m not sure this design provides any real benefits over a standard headlight setup, and function should come before form.
