Possibly, a unique styling will help or hurt the resale value of the Curvv in the long run.

There's no way to cut it, it will tank the resale value. Trendy designs age poorly. If you are old enough, I am sure you remember all those "futuristic" cars in the beginning of 2000's that look ridiculous now. The Curvv, however, might be on the same path.

Really, it could go either way. India might just think of the Curvv as ahead of it's time if coupe-SUVs become more mainstream. But if not, maybe it would be seen as a strange experiment.

I say good resale value, not because of the design. Now, Tata's safety ratings are extremely good, and that is becoming a factor in used car sales. It just has a unique look only.

You are all forgetting about practicality. No matter how cool it looks, if you can't meet the functionality requirements of families (and families are a major portion of the used car market), the resale value will suffer.

We're overthinking this, I think. When most of your Curvv owners sell their electric vehicle, it will probably be electric vehicles dominating the market. Regardless of how nice it'll look, its resale value will depend more on its range and battery health.
Is Tata’s Curvv EV coupe design practical for Indian families?

But i think it’s a refreshing change! It’s not like you need a boxy SUV in the urban jungle, but it certainly is not as practical as one. We definitely deserve some stylish EVs in India that don't look like glorified golf carts.

Practical? Nah, mate. Have you seen how Indian families overpack for the weekend trip! The only problem is that sloping roof is going to be a nightmare for luggage space. Also, good luck trying to fit everyone into the extended family for those festival visits!

It is a compromise, but one I am, and shall be, ready to make. The design is sure to turn heads, and if it extends range, that's a big win. Perhaps not suitable for everyone, but great for small families or couples.

That rear visibility where I'm worried. However, cool as those tiny rear windows look, they’ll be an inconvenience in chaotic Indian traffic. You should choose safety over style.

First off, who is the person buying this car that will actually be doing family road trips? Come on, let’s be real, most people aren’t. It's plenty practical for that purpose. But maybe it’s also more parking friendly, especially in tight spaces, than bigger SUVs.
Is Tata’s Curvv EV coupe design practical for Indian families?

I respect Tata by that. And given India's young and growing middle class, more design conscious than ever, this could be a hit with younger buyers looking for something different. Maybe it’s not for everyone, but that doesn’t mean it has to be.
Is Tata’s Curvv EV coupe design practical for Indian families?
29 October 2024 07:22
It's all practicality depending on your lifestyle. It's good for a young professional, or a couple without kids. It might be a stretch for a joint family or someone who has to carry a lot of stuff to haul regularly. It’s about knowing what you need.
In India, how will the maintenance cost of the Tata Curvv EV differ from usual ICE vehicles?
29 October 2024 00:08
Maintenance costs for the Curvv would be so damned cheap, I think. All of that routine ICE maintenance has disappeared – no oil changes, no spark plugs, no timing belts. In the long run, it’ll save a ton.
In India, how will the maintenance cost of the Tata Curvv EV differ from usual ICE vehicles?
29 October 2024 00:08
Yes the first few years might be cheaper, but wait until that battery has to be replaced. That’s going to be a cost that few ICE car units ever have to factor in.

And a lot will depend on Tata's service network. They could do well with maintenance, if they train their technicians well, and have good coverage across India. It could be a nightmare if not.

Anyway I'm worried about the electronics. Yes, the drivetrain is simpler, but what of all of those complex computers and sensors in the EV? They’re not cheap to fix when they go wrong.
In India, how will the maintenance cost of the Tata Curvv EV differ from usual ICE vehicles?

Maintenance will not be the real savings, it will be in fuel costs. Yet some repairs are more costly, but the petrol saved will easily outweight the cost.
In India, how will the maintenance cost of the Tata Curvv EV differ from usual ICE vehicles?
29 October 2024 00:08
It'll be cheaper overall, but more unpredictable cost wise. EVs have random maintenance unlike ICE cars, sometimes issues can be whiplash, and they’re oftentimes more expensive to fix.
In India, how will the maintenance cost of the Tata Curvv EV differ from usual ICE vehicles?
29 October 2024 00:08
Initially, the cost of maintaining EVs might even be higher just because there are less people trained in being EV mechanics. Berback: ‘Over time, as EVs become ubiquitous and more folks learn that they can work on them, the costs should start coming down.’
Will India's Tata Curvv EV price itself to ruin its resale value?
26 October 2024 16:34
It might really help resale value. The Curvv will look out of place on a sea of boring, boxy EVs. It will be a destination for people in the used market that want something more unique.
