It doesn’t matter what you want; it’s about the target audience, you’re both missing the point. The Curvv is not for people moving tons of stuff on a regular basis. Something stylish for daily use but, being sturdy enough for the occasional road trip. It's for urban dwellers.

First, let’s discuss something important: ground clearance. The clearness is actually pretty good if you consider crosswise conditions they are just fine for Indian roads. With surprise potholes and flooded streets, I'd rather have that than a few extra liters of cargo space.

People overestimate how much space they really need, I think. A boxy SUV might be better for that one annual road trip, for sure, but for all but 10% of your driving, the Curvv is probably just about practical enough.

Has visibility ever been considered? The rear end may look cool but I’ll be on that, it’ll be nightmarishly awful for parking in, and maneuvering in tight spots, and I bet. In crowded Indian cities that’s a big deal.

Fuel efficiency, you all forget. The Curvv has a sleeker shape than boxy SUVs, which probably makes it more aerodynamic. That could mean real savings at the pump in the long run – and that's pretty practical in my book.

The Curvv will actually profit pretty well with range anxiety, I think. Its sleek design is expected to make it more efficient than boxier EVs — a boon that could translate into better real world range in Indian conditions.

Anxiety about range is going to be an issue no matter what. Until the Curvv has charging stations as ubiquitous as petrol pumps, whether it can go 10 km or 1000 km doesn’t matter: people will still fret.

And the real test would be summer traffic jams in Delhi or Mumbai. Well, if the Curvv can still make due in bumper to bumper traffic with the AC blasting and still have decent range, then it's a winner in my book.

The worry is about the battery degradation over time. Yes, it may have amazing range when it’s brand new, but what about a couple of years into an Indian summer, in potholed roads? That's the real question.

Mostly, Range Anxiety is just a psychological thing. People will see, once they actually own and drive the Curvv, just how much you actually get for daily use. It's literally just getting past that initial mental hurdle that that thing is bringing you.

Actually, the Curvv's range might be worse than we thought. All of those fancy electronics probably drain power faster than a standard EV, and that sloping roof may mean a smaller battery pack.

For city use it seems fine but traveling long trips might be stressful. Until we have viable, reliable fast charging networks on our highways, any EV, I am afraid, will cause road trippers to worry.
Will the Curvv’s bold design change perceptions of Tata as a brand?
22 October 2024 15:41
I think it will certainly help change perceptions. The Curvv looks nothing like old Tatas – and that is just what they need. This will get people to be talking about and reconsidering the brand – especially younger buyers.

Design alone isn't enough. If Tata want to change minds, they need to nail the quality and reliability. You can't wipe away years of the public forgetting about your cars because they were so crappy in build quality with just one cool looking car.

You're both partially right. The Curvv will put butts in showrooms, but the difference will be the entire experience, a great test drive, a quality build experience and a great dealer interaction experience.

I feel we are underestimating how much Tata has got himself better already. That's where the Curvv enters the picture; it's just the cherry on top. They have been solid with their recent models and have top notch safety ratings. This is the last piece of the puzzle in the design.
Will the Curvv’s bold design change perceptions of Tata as a brand?
22 October 2024 15:41
Come on … many Indian buyers still regard Tata as a 'budget' brand. For their traditional customer base, the Curvv may be too expensive, and too un-grand to entice buyers from overseas brands. It could go and wind up somewhere in the middle.

Don’t forget the EV angle though, you are all missing that. If Tata succeeds in positioning the Curvv – especially the electric version – as a tech forward and sustainable alternative, it can significantly alter what we think about Tata. Though it's not all about looks, but being future ready.
Will the Curvv’s bold design change perceptions of Tata as a brand?

I'm skeptical. When Tata launched the Nano, do you remember? That ought to have been revolutionary too. Just because one interesting model doesn't cause long term changes in brand perception, and just because one interesting model doesn't deliver in every market, doesn't mean that a model will never generate long term change in brand perception or that it won't do well in every single market.
When we talk about the Tata Curvv EV, will it tap into the avant garde features such as a touchscreen smart watch with a remote controlled feature; will it be a game changer or just another gimmick?
22 October 2024 09:43
I certainly believe it will be a game changer. The Indian consumer loves tech and a slick infotainment system may swing it for a lot of buyers, particularly the younger ones.
