With the right modifications could the Supro be India's answer to the iconic VW Microbus?

In fact its unique design, versatility, and cultural value have made the Volkswagen Microbus, or classic T1 and T2 models to be exact, a cult car world wide. The Mahindra Supro is, in many ways, a very different vehicle, but its small size and potential for customization mean that some enthusiasts have wondered if it could be turned into an Indian version of the beloved VW van. The question here is, would it be practical and attractive to alter the Supro to share some of the Microbus's charm and function? The project looks at aesthetic modification, interior customisation, performance upgrades and the possibility of cultural impact of creating a distinctly Indian take on the classic van concept. It also discusses whether there is a market for such a vehicle in India and if it could generate a similar devoted following as its German counterpart.

Anything is possible with enough customization. I’d love to see someone tackle this challenge and build a "Indian Microbus" based on the Supro.

You can't really compare the Supro to a Microbus, it's too small. It's more of a mini minivan than a real van.

As a budget friendly, Indian flavored homage to the Microbus concept it could work. It's just going to be different, though maybe it will have its own cool.

Why copy the VW? India should not hesitate to make the Supro iconic in its own right, embracing its almost singular identity.

I think it's got potential, but it really needs a redesign to really get that retro cool factor. It’s too modern for the basic shape.

With the right mods it could most definitely capture some of that Microbus vibe. Two tone paint, round headlights and a custom interior would take it a long way.

The Supro has no way of ever achieving the charm or iconic design of the VW Bus. It's too boxy and utilitarian to ever be appealing like that.
