Will the rumored 350+ bhp of the XEV 7e change perceptions about EVs in India?

It's rumored to pack in excess of 350 bhp, a figure that sounds insanely impressive for an electric SUV even in the global context. Such performance could change perceptions about electric vehicles in the country. In India, EVs have been traditionally considered practical but uninspiring in terms of performance. That high power output should be enough to challenge the notion that EVs aren’t for them and may appeal to those who have been skeptical about EVs. But it also provokes questions about whether such high performance is necessary or desirable in India. While some say it could help break stereotypes and show off India’s engineering capabilities, others fear it will distract from more important issues regarding EV adoption such as range and charging infrastructure. But there’s also debate over whether this focus on power fits with the eco friendly image of EVs.

That’s exactly what we need to get petrolheads excited about EVs. Electric doesn't have to be boring, and high performance will definitely change minds.

Now 350+ bhp sounds great, but let's face it, range and the charging infrastructure is so much more important in changing perceptions about EVs in India.

I think it's a smart move. It puts the idea that only foreign brands make powerful cars to the test. It could be a point of pride for the Indian auto industry.

You're all missing the point. But this much power is useless if the car is too expensive for most people. It also means changing perceptions like making EVs available.

I'm looking forward to the performance bit worried about the safety. Is this much power on everyday Indian roads and drivers something that we are ready for?

Animesh on 15 December 2024 01:02
And this could actually hurt EV adoption. They might begin to view EVs as expensive performance machines rather than practical and eco friendly.

Arjun on 22 December 2024 18:22
We also shouldn’t forget that high performance EVs can be efficient. That could be a sign that you don’t have to choose between fun and sustainability.

What I’m more interested in is how does this performance manifest in the real world usability. The quick overtakes and merging would actually make EVs more appealing for daily use.
