Will the range offered by the Maruti eVX be enough to overcome India's charging infrastructure concerns?

It is also because of the lack of the need of widespread and reliable charging infrastructure that is a major barrier to EV adoption in India. As they develop the eVX, Maruti Suzuki will certainly know this challenge, being a company that deeply understands the Indian market. In this context the vehicle's range becomes a critical factor. A longer range could pave the way for the eVX to address range anxiety and make the electric vehicle more practical for Indian consumers — which might then partly compensate for the eVX’s meagre charging options. This, however, raises questions about the balance between range, battery size, and the cost. And of course, there’s the question of how it’ll perform under different driving conditions in India — from dense urban traffic to long stretches of highway. The debate also exists around whether Maruti should aim to maximise range, or if they should use their resources to develop charging infrastructure. And then, there's the question of whether the eVX's range will be competitive with competitors and a key differentiator in the market.

Range is king in India. If they can actually deliver 400+ km real world range, they will be a game changer.

Range is only half the story, it's also about charging speed. It’s important to be able to fast charge for long trips.

I think people overestimate the amount of range that they need. For city use 250-300 km is enough.

Therefore, Maruti should work towards affordable home charging solutions. Anyhow, most people are going to charge overnight.

The range estimation algorithm has to be nailed. The range itself is as important as the accurate prediction of the range.

Punit on 02 December 2024 03:28
Over time I'm worried about range degradation. The battery, however, needs to hold up in Indian conditions, and Maruti has to make sure of that.

Abhishek on 06 December 2024 11:55
Why not different battery sizes? Give customers the choice according to what they need and can afford.

Richa on 13 December 2024 09:25
The charging infrastructure doesn’t matter if range does. Maruti should invest in building charging stations.

Probably the sweet spot is 350-400 km. Anything more than that is just unnecessary cost and weight.
