Will the KTM Adventure 390’s high-revving engine character perform in the adventure riding world?

The KTM 390 Adventure is powered by a high-revving single-cylinder engine derived from the 390 Duke, noted for a sporty character and power at the top end. By way of contrast to low-rev, torquey engines that are common to traditional adventure bikes, this engine design is very different. The main debate focuses on whether or not this engine character is right for adventure riding’s diverse requirements, ranging from highway cruisers to the hardest of technical off-road. Fans of Rev Happy like the excitement, and on windy mountain roads, detractors say it lacks low-end grunt for off-road riding and is tiring on long highway stints. Basically, the discussion also revolves around the fuel efficiency with regards to maintaining requirements and the general way of using experience in various stages of adventure touring.

I really like the sporty feel of it, but on long highway stretches it can start to get a bit tiring. You are always working the gearbox in order to stay in the power band.
