Will the Flying Flea S6's chain drive affect the electric riding experience differently than hub motors?

When choosing a chain drive for the Royal Enfield Flying Flea S6 instead of a typical hub motor used in most electric motorcycles, we have some interesting questions about how this may affect the riding experience. Traditional motorcycle riders will be familiar with chain drives, which give some advantages in terms of power delivery and efficiency. But hub motors also need more maintenance. Using a chain drive in an electric motorcycle application could impact power delivery, range, noise, and the overall riding feel. For riders moving out from combustion engines, it may offer a more 'traditional' motorcycle experience. But it could add in complexities that hub motors don't. The discussion also covers the effects this design decision has on the bike’s performance characteristics, maintenance requirements, and its attractiveness to varied bike segments.

It's probably just a cost saving measure. Good hub motors are more expensive to make than chain drives. That hopefully means less money for us!

In fact, the chain drive could actually be more efficient than the belt drive at highway speeds. That could translate to better range for touring.

I'm curious about the noise. The cool futuristic electric motor sound will drown out the chain whine, right?

The disadvantage to chain drive is that there are more moving parts to maintain, but the advantage is it’s easier to repair if something goes wrong. Try fixing a hub motor yourself!

I've ridden both and I prefer chain drive. It feels more natural in power delivery and you don't get that 'washing machine' feeling that some hub motors have.

Man, the future is hub motors. Silent operation, no maintenance. This chain drive nonsense is RE just stuck in the past.

The chain drive is a smart move I think. Traditional riders will find it'll make the S6 feel more like a "real" bike. And you can easily switch gearing for different riding styles.
