Will the Chetak 3501’s premium features matter to buyers when the electric scooter costs more than budget electric scooters?

Bajaj Chetak 3501 with the price of around ? 1.32 Lakh is a premium electric scooter in the Indian market. The pricing strategy has raised eyebrows among the rapidly growing electric two wheeler segment about value for money. There are features loaded on to the scooter such as a 5 inch touchscreen, smartphone connectivity, Google Maps integration, geofencing etc. However, there is a problem: it is up against well established players, and new entrants offering similar if not more features at lower price points. It’s often a discussion on whether Bajaj’s brand value, build quality and after sales service warrants the premium pricing. There is a case to be made that a product from a reputable manufacturer is worth the higher price, and there are those who believe the cost will be too high to achieve mass adoption in a price sensitive market like India. People also have their say about whether the added features are really making the ride better or are just nice to have features which don't justify the price bump.

Absolutely worth it! With a big brand like Bajaj, you are already looking at build quality and reliability. Plus, it feels like a proper upgrade from regular a scooter, thanks to those premium features.

No way. Scooters with similar features can be had for 20-30% less. They are just charging a premium because of their name. So I'd rather shell out for the cheapest one with the same specs.

It's a tough call. The features are nice, but you are competing with entry level motorcycles at that price. I don't know if all those fancy features are really all that necessary for city use.

If you’ve owned both cheap and premium scooters, you know the quality difference is noticeable. But the Chetak’s price might seem steep, it will likely last longer, and have better resale value.

I think it's overpriced. The idea behind electric scooters is that EVs should be accessible, but at this price point, it's still a luxury item. To compete with petrol scooters, they have to bring the cost down.

It’s worth the price, if you think about it as a savings on fuel and maintenance in the long run. The premium features also make the transition to electric more attractive for those used to high end petrol scooters.

Features aren't everything, it's the ecosystem. With a new technology like EVs, a wide service network and established brand name adds peace of mind worth paying extra for.
